So why didn't the rebels just use hyperspace missiles on the death star?
Because Lucas liked WW2 era dogfights.
>>219056090Star Wars has a bizarro relationship with it, while science nerds try to come up with all sorts of explanations for why hyperspace weapons don't exist, and realise that the Death Star is a massive OVERKILL, the actual owners of Star Wars could care less about that sort of thing.
>>219056090It was Her Turn, chud!
>>219056192>could care lessDoes He Know?
>>219056090I rewatched a new hope recently and they only sent 20 (twenty) fighters against the death star, that's fucking mental, did they not have more? and why didn't tie fighters just overwhelm them? last I checked on wookiepedia it had 7000 starfighters. sorry but the battle of yavin is one of the dumbest scenes in the entire star wars
>expecting logic from a 'sci-fi fantasy' seriesIt was always about doing whatever seemed cool at the time. Nothing in this franchise survives scrutiny because the autistic world would be a different show entirely.
>>219056090Because they won't be able to travel nearly fast enough to beat the laser defense systems.
You have WW2-style dogfighters and space wizards with laser swords. If you are looking for hard sci-fi, this isn't it.
>>219056090because space ethics forbid the use of hyperspace missiles
>>219056090Are you talking about a kinetic one or an explosive one?Because if it's kinetic and it goes off course, well the planet that gets impacted by it would turn into dust. Then the question is why did the Empire build the death star when you can just use "rods from God" weaponry that function the same.
>>219056300you can't deploy that many tie fighters in the same airspace at one time. they would crash into each other or lock swap. it would be an air traffic and fire control nightmare.
>>219056192Hyperspace weapons are not a thing because when they jump the ships are not moving in real space and cannot hit anything. Hyperspace is a concept allowing a workaround of the hard limit of lightspeed.
