HJ: I saw the film version of the The Dresser last night. At one point, Wolfit or Sir, says, “Lear is the greatest tragic part of all time.”OW: Of course. The Dresser is a parody of Lear. The dresser is the fool—HJ: Oh, my God. You know, I never even got that. I feel stupid.OW: It’s a little clumsy, but that’s what it is. The writer, Harwood, is trying to say a lot more than he needed to say to make a very good vehicle play. You mustn’t look too closely at it. But that’s what it is.HJ: Albert Finney is magnificent.OW: Stick a dagger in me! I tried so hard to get the rights to that play. You’ve ruined my lunch.

>>219057813HJ: Did the French know about Kane?OW: [..]The first thing they heard about it was the violent attack by Jean-Paul Sartre. Wrote a long piece, forty thousand words on it or something.HJ: Well, maybe it politically offended him in some way.OW: No. I think it was because, basically, Kane is a comedy.HJ: It is?OW: Sure. In the classic sense of the word. Not a fall-in-the-aisles laughing comedy, but because the tragic trappings are parodied.HJ: I never thought of Kane as a comedy. It’s profoundly moving.OW: It’s moving, but so can comedies be moving. There is a slight camp to all the great Xanadu business. And Sartre, who has no sense of humor, couldn’t react to it at all.

I just watched Minari (2020). Beautiful movie. Not that it matters, I'm waffling over whether to give it a 9/10 or 10/10. There really are no flaws and the scale is not wide, but runs miles deep.Have any other anons seen it? Were you similarly moved? The grandma in particular was such a bright light, but everyone played their roles very well. I'm extremely satisfied with the ending, too, which is always tough to stick.
