What are some classic

>stumble home drunk late at night
>turn on the TV
>what the FUCK am I watching?

-type shows? Picrel would have been crazy to see in the mid 90s.

This show has always stuck with me. Something about the lighting.

Funniest fucking show. Probably my favorite of the "Oh this couldn't be made TODAY" genre of shows

When I was like 12 I stumbled upon some show about a guy being hunted as a death sentence in some sort of found footage format (sort of running man like concept, but not a future setting and really low budget). It was on a really old TV set that actually used rabbit ears and super staticy so I couldn't make out a lot of details. I've never found out what the fuck that was.

That honestly sounds like some late‑night UPN / USA Network tier fever dream shit.

Low budget, “guy being hunted,” found footage vibes, not sci‑fi… could’ve been *Series 7: The Contenders*. Early 2000s movie that’s basically The Running Man but done like a trashy reality TV show. Super grimy, shot-on-video look. They’d air that kind of stuff at ungodly hours.

Could also be one of those mid-2000s Fox reality experiments where they pretended it was real. There was a window where networks were just dumping faux-snuff-adjacent “social experiment” garbage into the 1AM slot and calling it art.

The rabbit ears + static probably added 50% to the horror though. Everything hits different when it looks like a numbers station bleeding through PBS.

Half the time those memories turn out to be some Sci-Fi Channel original that cost $7 and a carton of Marlboros to make.

We'd have adult channels (Playboy and Spice) that came in without a subscription but they'd be really distorted, staticky and in negative but you could sometimes make out a woman's face or a tit. I remember it being really haunting almost.

It was also in black and white, so looking up Series 7 (which sounds pretty close to the concept) I genuinely have no idea if that was it or not. It was definitely from around that time period though (maybe on the earlier side of 00's). I thought it was some basic cable channel, but beats me

Canal 5 had a myriad of American, Spanish and European music videos. Got into Sophie Ellis bextor, Kylie minogue, and mushroomhead thanks to them.

Genuinely one of my favourite all time memories watching TV was coming home from a night of clubbing in 2009, when my buddy and I turn on HBO. We're both confused but laughing hysterically seeing what is clearly a 30+ year old man dressed and acting as a high school girl. It was the episode when they do the school "fashion show" - just so perplexing when you have no idea what you've tuned in to.

It's a shame Chris Lilley basically devolved into lazy Australian douche-bro humor with playing dress-up being basically his only joke, because We Can Be Heroes and Summer Heights High both had this undercurrent of sweetness - and the guy truly is a phenomenal actor when he wants to be.

What I did was even worse I would play with the crt tv I had just to see if I could find random channels outside of the main stuff like PBS and Fox and there was this extremely staticy stationary 24/7 ad for some cell phone service in Spanish with this sexy latina bitch on the beach. I would goon to it all the tome just for the thrill of it. It was weird looking back that there was a channel just dedicated to a picture like a televised billboard ad

For me it's Nathan bragging about getting blown by a 13 yr old while her song about getting molested by her uncle plays in the bg and saying it was "technically a Polanski"
