His relationship with Lily is so important to him precisely because she was the only one who saw him as a person, not a character to flee from. Him being bullied at Hogwarts is part of this. Even in a castle full of freaks, Snape was weird enough to be an acceptable target. And who were his bullies? The deformed Pettigrew, the cancer patient-looking Lupin, and the weirdos Sirius & James. The Marauders were freaks themselves, and it’s a common occurence of the freaks ganging up on the even bigger freak to compensate for their So casting a tall, attractive nigga, with "cool" dreads, break the whole character from its foundation. Unless they go for a heavy handed "Harry’s dad lynched the schools only black kid" narrative, there is no way to depict Snape as the bitter, vulnerable man he is, with this actor.On top of that, the thematic value of Snape is to teach children not to judge a book by its cover. Making him a nigga lampshades that, and makes it impossible to see him as the flawed char he is, rather than just the token black guy of HogwartsA black Hagrid, McGonnagall, or fuck it Dumbledore wouldn’t have been as infuriating.
