The whole situation is so weird, in any other circumstance it would be bizarre to say "Yeah I'm gonna do a movie about two chapters from the first book that were skipped over in the previous adaptation." But I suppose this franchise also had an entire movie adapted from two pages of The Hobbit so it's not even the first time it happened. LotR nerds have a bizarre fixation on those two chapters, to the extent that Rings of Power ALSO had an episode with barrow wights and Tom Bombadil appearing in the same episode (separately though).I will say I'm in favor of it just because it's really fucking funny, everyone doing this victory lap over getting Stephen Colbert fired and he just falls upward to an even more high profile project. Reminds me of the James Gunn situation where they got him fired and not only did they apologize and unfire him, it led to him becoming the CEO of DC.
