Is Tarantino right about this era?
>>
Sure. Most of today's movies aren't movies. They're the equivalent of YouTube content.
Trailer moment after trailer moment.
Nobody gets raped anymore.
>>
>>219090963
>80s is one of the worst
tarantino is such a pretentious fag
>>
>>219090963
Yes. I rarely watch new films anymore.
>>

This decade is the worst ever, Tarantino isn't wrong.

Why does that movie look so fucking ugly?

>>
>this era of film sucks nigger dick
no shit sherlock.
It's insane how a 25 year old film like LOTR is and looks better than 99.9% of modern slop.
>>
Green screen ruined everything.
>>
>>219090963
whats wrong with the 80s?
>>
>>219090963
did he consider that hollywood history is pretty much over
>>
>>219091087
People forget that 80s films were seen as the epitome of slop until millennials started reevaluating them in the 2000s
Most of schwarzenegger classic 80’s films for example were considered to be comically bad cash grabs
>>
>>219091337
who the fuck thinks of B action slop when talking about that era you motherfucker
>>
>>219091360
70s had godfather, taxi driver, chinatown
80s had fucking back to the future, E.T and fucking top gun
>>
>>219091304
think he was thinking about the late 80s when they made so many terrible sequels and really bad oscarbait movies
>>
>>219091482
>70s had garbage
>80s had good movies
I agree.
>>
Well I can see where he's coming from even though I don't agree with him necessarily. Tarantino obviously likes dark, edgy and gritty stuff and is not a big fan of colorful and cheesy unless it's his own flavor of edgelord humor.

50s cowboy movies: optimistic american frontier heroes
60s cowboy movies: gritty spaghetti westerns

70s action movies: dark, gritty gangster movies
80s action movies: optimistic, colorful, cheesy and over-the-top. hulkamania and aerobics

And then he started his career in the 90s doing his own edgy gangster movies. the current era for him is probably the whole marvelslop era of colorful and cheesy superhero movies with bad CGI
>>
>>219090963
Reminder that Tarantino is a capeshitter.

The Running Man.
Labyrinth.
All good movies.

Every decade you have people claiming it is currently the worst period for cinema and then 20 years later a younger generation says actually they were making great stuff

I love the 80's for most things, particularly music, but I do think it was a local low for movies, sandwiched between highs in the 70's and 90's. Emphasis turned to cheap spectacles: action, gore, boobs, montages.

The funny thing is they could remake lesser known 70s 80s 90s B movies that had good ideas but were barely seen outside of VHS or HBO at 2am instead of just remaking well known IPs and adding black people

You're just intentionally selecting movies for kids and general audiences when it comes to the 80's, and ignoring the fact that Star Wars, The Muppets, Smoky and the Bandit, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory came out in the 70's.

The 80's had Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, Scarface, Blade Runner, First Blood. You could go on.

The 70's was the hokiest era for James Bond movies too. They cleaned it up a little bit in the 80's.

You're right. I've never come across any contemporary mentions of the 1890s, 1900s or 1910s as the worst period for cinematography.

Why does anyone still care what this weird freak says? He hasn't made a good movie in decades despite being given every opportunity to do so several times. It’s the camera angles, cuts/transitions, and too much background blurring that’s fucking everything up. Look at how basic camera work was done in the 60s and 70s and the cult classics it produced. Now every artsy camera fag wants their special angle, zoom, fancy transition and it just takes away from the story completely.
>>
>>219093073

80s had Big Trouble in Little China, one of the best movies ever produced. Tarantino can suck a giant cock.
>>
the thing about 80's trash is it was better produced, and is therefore far more beloved.
70's trash (Tarantino's favorite kind of movie, btw) is just actual trash on the whole. No one really wants to watch forgotten 70's action movies.
No one wants to watch Death Race 2000, when they can watch The Running Man. No one wants to watch a movie with Burt Reynolds in it.
>>
>>219093343
>No one wants to watch a movie with Burt Reynolds in it.
I disagree. Cannonball Run is quite entertaining.
>>
>>219091839
same reason why people say "omg the world is ending" yeah the world is ending conviently in that tiny timeframe you are alive.. its just people subconciously thinking they are important and right now in their lifetime all important shit is happening. Its main character syndrome cope stuff.
>>
tarantula is a faggot, three of the top-grossing movies of the 80s were mid-budget comedies, that hasn't happened since. The 80s were the last decade in history so far where both the studios and the public supported every genre big budget and small, and were rewarded by sales, in theaters or at home video
>>
>>219093515
Which was the first?
>>
>>219090963
Today is clearly the worst
>>
80’s movies were bad because they were full of cliches with boring characters and dialogue. 2020s movies are bad because they’re whoring out established IPs but making everything needlessly diverse. They’re also badly lit and shot because directors are expected to fix everything in the editing room. Different flavors of slop.
>>
>>219090963
If it's so bad, why not make more movies to fill the void? Oh, he just likes hearing his own voice and declaring he's going to head off into the sunset after making 10 whole movies in 30+ years.

> and too much background blurring that’s fucking everything up
That’s so the image is easier to compress for streaming and mobile screens. I watched a new episode of Scrubs back to back with an episode from 2001. The new episode had the blurred, low resolution backgrounds. Even though there was no CGI to blend with. The old episode was shot on film and everything onscreen was given equal focus.

Tarantino thinks the 70s were the best because they were depressing and shocking, but he was also like 12 years old when that happened while his mom was fucking different black guys. I get the "commerciliazation" of movies, like... Star Wars, HeMan, Garbage Pail Kids, but we also got shit like Blade Runner, The Thing, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, flicks pushing new effects, being more entertaining for rewatching. Yes, it's nice to have a shocking film that makes you think but it's also nice to have movies that are actually fun and rewatchable like Back to the Future and Ghostbusters. Tarantino loves the Schwarzenegger slop films. Most people at the time liked them for the fun slop that they are and they're still way better than the action movies of the last 30 years.
>>
>>219102352
tbf Total Recall is great in spite of Arnold, he is absolutely the worst thing about that movie
>>
>>219102976
His stupid opinion has been blown out of the water at least 100+ times in this thread alone
>>
>>219090963
There are still good movies but the issue is that we're in the era where the formula for audience pleasing movies was uncovered and is now old hat. So even when something is good, it is either esoteric or just like a bunch of other films or references so many other films that nothing has a feel of its own. Unironically, an issue is that too many courageous filmmakers are too inspired by Quentin Tarantino so their movies are quilts made from old blankets and not new blankets.
>>
>>219103029
>There are still good movies
Name a single good movie from the last 10 years.
>>

They swear and it is violent but it is not for mental adults, it is for adults who are mental.

>Every decade you have people claiming it is currently the worst period for cinema
Have you considered that some of the time those people might be right or are you one of those retarded faggots that thinks everything is always improving?
>>

80s is Gen X

Weapons.

I'm sure you'll debate this.
>>

Absolute retard.

>2023 and 2025
There wasn't a single truly good movie released in 2025. None of them will be remembered at all.
>>
>>219103065
Blade Runner 2049
>>
>>219090963
>Is Tarantino right about this era?
he's right about the 50s, the 80s and now yeah.
50s had like a couple kinos with big tiddy blondes with mansfield and monroe.
i'd say if anyone wanted to watch a single film from the 50s it'd be Some Like It Hot.
80s was stupid cheesy at the start but kinda the real beginning of Blockbusters/Action Movies so shit with big muscly white dudes like Schwarzenegger and Stallone.
in the later 80s we finally got comfycore kino from Spielberg but i really can't think of too many 80s movies that hold up at all.
>>
>>219103116
Never heard of it.
Try picking a movie someone's actually heard of.
>>
>>219103135
That movie was trash. Pointless sequel no one wanted.

The 80s was the beginning of sequel slop.

I was thinking about this the other day. It isn't fair to have lived through 1994 because everything gets better and better but then nothing gets as good as 1994. Especially that post-9/11 patch where special effects felt like PS2 games (think the troll fight from Harry Potter 1.)
>>
>>219103175
According to you. I and many others on this board like it, and it has an 8.0 IMDb score which is rare and almost matches the original
>>
>>219103216
Its a meme on /tv/. No one actually likes it.
That's why it flopped.
>>
>>219103116
It really is a condemnation of the industry that you have to pick something like Weapons. It's not a bad movie but it's objectively not great and completely forgettable.
>>
>>219103116
Is not that good narratively
>>
>>219091247
why is it insane? they filmed it... on film. they also used practical effects.
there's a reason 80s anime looks better than most of the shit from 2014 and on, there's a common theme between the two.
CG is fucking trash but in current year it's so much cheaper than doing things the "right way" spending more money and time to have your shit look good.
>>
>>219090963
Absolutely. Movies have been historically bad now for 15 years. So bad it's possible the industry never recovers. But we have 1950-2010 movies to watch, so there's that.
>>
>>219103175
Your just stupid. You couldn't understand it so you gotta dog it when you're just retarded. GJ
>>
>>219103240
Nope, sorry, plenty of people like it. You're going to say that about literally any movie that's named here, and you'll be wrong every time
>>
>>219091015
I agree with you. Yes, even that last line.
>>
>>219091208
excellent post
>>
>>219103284
So everyone loves it, that's why it flopped?
>>
>>219092774
>Literally made some of the most cheesiest sequels in the 80s
first blood was a bit cheese but the speech at the end really elevated the movie to kino status.
i don't even remember watching anything beyond first blood though i probably have.

The structure is fantastic. It is a very visual movie. It wouldn't work as a book.
>>
>>219103135
Great example of that's wrong with modern movies. Villenueve is shit. If it didn't star le meme actor 4chan wouldn't give a shit about it.
>>

It dawned on me when Zootopia 2 had the same heart as MCU movies.
>>

Noted and accepted.
>>
>>219099843
There are 50s kino (Rebel Without a Cause and Larger than Life both come to mind, both which deal with masculinity's place in a post-WWII society and both are by Nicholas Ray) but it is also cinema on its heels when TV has it on the ropes. Late 60s usher in the Hollywood Renaissance which makes the 1970s so damn good but the 1950s is solidly "We gotta get them out of the house and don't do montages because that's Godless commie bullshit."
>>
>>219090963
nothing tarantula says is right. guys are fucking retard
>>
>>219103666
Personally, Satan, I like "Them! (1954)".
>>
Tarantulino is very close to being a living meme. His headstone should read "Nigger Burial Place."
>>
I agree with current movies being bad. I don’t agree with the 80s movies, and I haven’t seen enough 50s movies to judge.
>>
the 50s 80s and current era are all time when technology outpacsd art and allowed hacks like tarantino to enter the industry

One of the more prescient posts I've seen on 4chongchingchong in a few days. Nicely done. Don't let this go to your head and make you think you're a super duper smart person. You're a brown-skinned Trump voter like the rest of us.
