Im going too OP but I've noticed with these anniversaries that have been happening the past couple years, is that im just rewatching a movie I've seen a ton of times just to say I saw it in the movie theater
>>
>>219103476
I get that. Lucky for me I've never seen it
>>
>>219103476
based

I saw it for the first time a couple of years ago despite growing up in the 80s.
It was a bit of a disappointment.
>>
>>219102424
I remember them walking around and then crossing at the train tracks....then nothing else.
I think they were looking for a dead body....for some reason
then some 1950s greasers show up? they want the body?
What kind of plot is that?
Also Richard Dreyfus shows up a the end writing it as a story because Stephen King just NEEDS to have a writer character in his stories

You’re a fag for not having watched this movie in your formative years
>>
The opening spoiling the dramatic emotional lynchpin of the entire story, because moviegoers need an upfront reason to care about the characters.

You needed to have friends growing up to understand this movie. Sorry, chuds, I don't make the rules.

>I never had any friends later on like the ones when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?
>>
>>219106439
Damn good point. I remember spending all summers biking around with my friends at that age. I grew up around where this movie was shot even, beautiful place. I guess kids don't do that anymore they just... sit inside? I don't know.

>>219106506
after columbine it stopped being okay for kids to die sometimes

Fun fact: In the original Pokemon games, this movie is playing on your character's bedroom tv. Including in the Japanese localization.

>never had any friends

My friends and I would play in the creek and walk along train tracks, curse, and start fires and break bottles. I saw this movie one summer night and it hit, hard. I had a close friend that started smoking at 12, drank here and there, hated his parents, we had a little group. I lost touch with them all of course. I went on to be a little famous locally, acting in plays. I saw a lot of myself in the Wil Wheaton character, I liked to write skits and act and do "weird" stuff. I didn't fully relate to the Wheaton character tho, my parents were supportive of me, but my classmates weren't. One time the bully tried to kill my smoker friend, like for real, at age 13, he tried to push him off an overpass. Smoker switched schools and the bully came after me. The bully stabbed a girl in the thigh and got expelled, high school was pretty good after that. I never did see any of those friends I had from 6th grade tho. They never saw me in a play, but, that was that, we grew up.

I always a had difficult time making friends due to my retardation. So the few friends I made were usually folks that saw through it and accepted it . This is movie autism comfort. Also that ending is depressing as hell. It's the only film that's almost brought me to tears

I was very popular growing up, got lots of pussy, parties, etc… after high school I started getting really bad social anxiety and lost literally all of my friends because of it. You could say it was their fault for not sticking by a friend who was struggling but I honestly don’t blame them. Who would to hang out with a depressed and anxious guy in your early 20’s? I’m 32 now and married with kids but I still have no friends and struggle with social anxiety constantly. Im always thinking back on those days growing up as the best years of my life. It’s pretty depressing.

let us know if rob reiner does a q&a after

>I’m 32 now and married
Really? I'm 33 and married (kids on the way probably in a year) and also have no friends really but life is great. I just hang out with my wife or my family or play online games if I feel the need for socialization. I could see it being shitty if I was single living alone but I get more than enough socialization thru my partner. In fact I feel like most married guys I know don't really have "close" friends and most are totally okay.
>>
>>219102424
Why was it such a big hit in Japan? I still remember the intro to the original Pokemon games.
>>
>>219107472
My kids are awesome and honestly the only reason I’m still here. Sadly my wife and I constantly fight. I met her in the depths of my anxiety so you could say I settled and I’m just too afraid to be alone again.

Japan loves rural trains
>>
>>219107740
Trains are great, why do they love this movie though.

>>219107555
Gooks are obsessed with seeing dead bodies
>>
>>219106015
The body is just a macguffin to get the boys out on a hike. It’s more a bittersweet celebration of that last bit of time together with your childhood friends, before girls and life circumstances scatter you to the winds.
>>

Japan likes a lot of western dramas. They also have a lot of trains, so yes that's a big factor. This is also a period piece. So while it's 1959 in the US, Japan was in a different place then, sum it up, 10 years behind. Still Japan caught up on trains for sure. The aggressive expansion of rail lines and putting more urban areas in hills and former farm land happened in the 70's and 80's. So this movie really hit for even more people in Japan than the US, as it was even more relatable across the board.
>>
>>219102424
I walked so many railroad tracks as a kid with my friends in the 80s and 90s and we never found a dead body. Sucks ass.
>>
>>219103234
With dialogue like
>who ever told you had a fat one?
>biggest one in 4 counties
you're not far off
>>
>>219108658
I did the same several times. Never saw a body but got shot at by a few farmers and chased by some bulls. Shit was cool.
We did it because of this movie. I don't know anyone that goes outside anymore.
