Is it because of the whole "weirdo child gets whisked away into a magical world where everyone likes him" trope? All the autistic people that read/watched it felt like Harry in the beginning and wanted that escape?

That and the last gasp of British cultural fascination

It's a good kid's book/movie.
And the brilliant part of it is that the books/movies get more mature in their themes as their initial audience grows into young adults.
>>
probably because of book drives when they were still a thing
>>
who the fuck is top left supposed to be?

>It's a good kid's book/movie.
This is the type of low IQ mongrel the linked thread >>219102854 talks about
Worth a read and you'll even learn about yourself if you're as dumb as this guy
>>
>>219102962
Fine I'll read the thread, but summarize: what's so bad a about it?
Frankly I'm inclined to say that just about anything that gets kids interested in reading in general is a good kid's book.
>>
>>219102680
>erm why were children entertained by entertaining children's books?
It's a shame your parents didn't introduce you to books, you were forced to chase a ball outside like a dog
>>
>>219103068
i know that, im specifically asking why harry potter kicked off more so than any other childrens book series
>>
>>219102680
The films were great and were released at a time where seeing a movie was a huge sometimes lifechanging event for kids and dorks.
They also lasted a decade.
Rangs of potter will be forgotten.
>>
>>219102680
No, it was the appeal of being a kid who gets taken away from your boring/awful/stupid/etc parents to go to a rich boarding school full of like minded and above average intelligence peers where you're not left to sink or swim on your own but immediately put into a group that has your back and even then you're part of a small community that knows one another. You go to Hogwarts and wear the same clothes as everyone else so you don't have to worry about whether you look cool or not, you already have friends by simply being part of a house and all the stupid people never make it to the school anyways so you don't have to put up with brown behavior, etc.

It's the appeal of small ethnically homogenous populations and nationalism. Even if people didn't understand WHY Hogwarts appealed to them, they still felt attraction to the inherent human need to cast off individualism and be part of a small group of genetically similar people.

>god DAMN these magically sex pants

It was the narcissistic fantasy of an abused orphan where harry is secretly rich and famous and his uncle is the most evil man in the universe and everyone is terrified of his uncle, which is harry's way of coping for the fact that no one calls social services.
>>
>>219102680
It was due to childhood literacy and the Columbus movies feeling like Christmas movies as a kid. Plus the sorting house system makes it easy to insert yourself into the universe and compare with your friends.
>>
>>219102962
I read the thread. What is said there applies to almost all children's books.
It's just the usual contrarian /lit/ shortsightedness.
>>
>>219105137
>What is said there applies to almost all children's books.

Yeah because of the huge influence of Harry Potter. Before it was largely confined to science fiction and fantasy for an older audience that wasn't just marketed to kids
>>
>>219102680
Good characterisation.
It's full of scenarios people can relate to.
>>
it's comfy
>>
>>219102680
because every single "gifted" or weird american child wanted to be told three things:
1. you are special and different
2. we're going to teach you special and different things from the dumb kids
3. we're taking you so far away from your parents that they won't be able to come get you if the wanted
its a fantasy for the kids held back by the "no child left behind" mindset.
>>
>>219102680
It's comfy and whimsical. An irony-poisoned zoomer like yourself could never possibly appreciate something like Harry Potter.

For any zoomers wondering what this redditor is saying. Millennials grew up in a time where every single piece of media real estate is monopolized and carefully curated. The only culture expressions they had was found online(and this slop wasn't part of it).
Everything else is just a carefully curated gaslight to get you to buy or believe something.
>>
>>219106288
your cultural expressions are...?
>>
>>219102680
Faustian pact from the author. For me, I liked the sense of humor in the books and when the movies weren't funny like that, I dropped them.

quality isekai material made by english people for english people, and the first 3 movies were top tier productions made in the zenith of cinema

School drama + magic is a solid enough premise that people can overlook the awful worldbuilding and mid writing. It helps that it's a very british work.

>>219103534
Harry potter is anti ethnic. The appeal is lording over your inferiors that look like you. It's basically getting involved with Epstein/Jews as a white person.
>>
>>219102680
The magic and the mystery.
