Why? Even the games are kind of shit. The series only got popular because it was one of the first mainstream horror games. It's been coasting on that popularity for decades. The story is not but there's more of the games you can translate to film. There are a lot of unique ways the RE games bring up tension and horror through gameplay and plot. The premise is good enough to make a decent from from: big puzzlebox locations, horror creature variety, etc.

The only way a RE movie would work is if it was a low budget retro cop movie with zombies. The nu-crap stinks. The Jovovich movies are entertaining but not exactly RE.

I'm looking forward to it, but Zack Cregger isn't in the same league as Paul W.S. Anderson, Alex Witt, and Russell Mulcahy.
