Why do they keep holding it hostage? Just let the fucking guy make his movie. The first one was ok, the comic was good and the HBO series was kino.

its not happening. that movie has been in talks fr 10 years

Because Spawn just looks cool and that's as much mileage as you can get out of him. Todd's based. Love his art and he seems like a cool guy but Spawn just kinda fucking sucks.

This is image comics in a nutshell. Lots of great artwork, but little substance.

That was Image in the early days because it was founded by a bunch hotshot artists with no writing experience. But while Erik Larsen spent the next 30 years writing Savage Dragon himself until it degenerated into nothing but a platform for his politics and fetishes, Todd was a bit smarter and hired writers more competent than himself for Spawn. They did add some substance. No way the comic would have lasted this long just on looking cool, seeing as nothing else from Image's original wave is still around (other than Dragon because Larsen won't let it die).

It has its niche.

Assassin coming back from the dead only to find his previous life destroyed and his sanity slowly slipping away. The "timer" on his powers meaning there's immediately a forward momentum to the story rather than just the status quo (despite the counter later being removed). The emphasis on the religious gimmicks and themes, a pretty solid cast of side characters. Initially it was also influenced by Sin City and Se7en with a lot of crime and punishment type of mini arcs, but later on it went full occult and was juggalo coded.

All in all a pretty interesting trajectory.
Hellspawn by Ashley Wood and a lot of other spinoffs with Spawns through the ages were at the very least interesting.

No one is holding anything hostage, the fucker can put up his own money and make whatever Spawn movie he wants. He's asking for millions of dollars from studios and full creative control and no one is going to give him that especially now that comic slop movies are dead. He should have taken the deal they offered ten years ago when comic slop was still profitable. He's doing fine with his Spawn royalties and licensing money, but the actual Spawn comic barely breaks even like most major comic books and he just does it to sell merchandise.

Spawn is beyond comic slop, peon.

Spawn is culturally irrelevant

what's more likely to happen first: a new Spawn movie or a Metal Gear movie?
>>
>>219119153
The Toddfather has never been wrong in his life. We wanted to make comics his way and that made him the richest man in the business.

He wants to do his movie his way, and you'll watch it eventually make morbillions.

He’s turned into a nigger faggot, simple as. He’s made enough money over the last 20 years to have fully financed the entire film. I doubt it ever gets made at this point.

Pssst. The reality is that Jason Blum lured Todd, initially agreeing that he should direct, citing the old HBO series, but with the expectation that Todd would either cede his dream of directing or worst case Todd would basically fund the project. The fucked up thing is that Todd didn't get the hint so Blumhouse strung him along with notes to "improve" his script, until they overstepped by publicly implying it needed to reflect George Floyd and BLM, rather than rely on the POV of cops. Jamie Foxx had a stroke, Jeremy Renner lost his ability to stroke, Blumhouse thought Todd would cave, he's an autist. Pretty shitty situation, luckily there are two directors with recent hits who grew up with the comic who might help Todd as producers or shadow directors to secure a $25 million budget.

Truth of the matter is that the property is pretty weak and it will likely get ridiculed than get some positive buzz. The first movie made the entire franchise a joke and the comic veered heavily into juggalo territory so there's a lot to be clowned on there (pun intended).

McFarlane is not stupid, he knows all this and is sitting it out.

Spawn didn't have enough substance for hundreds of issues, but there should be enough for a single good movie
