They knew 17th century anatomy in middle earth?
>>
yes. the orcs were also literate and ate at restaurants
>>
Their civilization is older than ours. They wisely decided not to go the way of industrialization.

>Civilization reaches the point of enlightenment
>Stays a religious monarchy 'just because'
yea, no.
>>
peter hackson got lucky and lord of the rings was lightning in a bottle

You typed 'Numenor civilization' into google to check what it was before this post

People have had pretty good guesses about how the nervous system works for thousands of years though. You brain controls your body and if something gets stuck in your brain it messes up and your body moves spontaneously. It's not that complicated.
>>
>>219127779
lord of the rings is like early / high middle ages though, they would have had far less medical understanding than either the greeks or the late middle ages
there's no way anyone in a technologically equivalent time period would talk like that, and certainly nobody talks like that in the books. It's just marlel writing because every theater must have a laughing child every 5 minutes

Gimble is a dwarf and he was alive for ten thousand years, it is possible he read a book or two about dicks or something so he knows how sttuff works.
>>
yeah, the anatomy book floated over to middle earth along with the potato and tomato plants
>>
>>219128054
He knows what he means because he's seen battle and knows something about how the body works as he's killed creatures and seen people get hurt, but the exact term "nervous system" could just be for the sake of the audience.
>>
Middle Earth is not Earth. The story is not set in a time period that happened in real life.
>>
>>219128151
he would have known what a brain was. Why not just say brain?
>>
>>219126523
nervous systems were back on the menu.
>>
What's Gimli's tax policy?
>>
>>219128182
"Nervous system" works better as a joke.
>Because he's got my ax embedded in his brain!
See, not as funny.
>>
>>219128329
right, that's what I said
it doesn't make sense and it's just there for the joke
>>
>>219126689
It's not a religion if it's real.
>>
>>219128393
Well no, when writing dialog sometimes certain phrasing sounds better not just as a joke because he could've just said "brain" and it would still be a joke, but "nervous system" sounds better as dialog and not just being more funny. Sometimes that phrasing is for the benefit of the audience because yeah, being a brutish warrior he might not know exact medical terminology, but he's still a smart guy who's lived a long time, is well traveled and seen many battles, so it wouldn't be completely out of the question for him to know what a nervous system is especially in a fantasy world.
>>
>>219128172
technically it literally is
>>
>>219128329
I disagree.

Why is "nervous system" funnier than "brain?"

It's a lot more jarring. Is it a lot more funny? Is it funny enough to make up for the loss of immersion?
>>
>>219126523
They literally were in a post-apocalyptic era. The Golden Age of Elves and Men were long gone by the time of LotR. Aragon's reign was only a mere shadow of the Numenoreans who were basically Stargate's Ancients. They knew how to make "flying ships". They certainly knew of the nervous system.
>>
one of the few lines I cringe at but I still love the movies
>>
>>219128954
because having an axe imbedded in the brain doens't make a body twitch. Only "nervous system" makes any sense there.
>>
>>219126689
Bruh they have MAGIC. Only a retard mongrel would be an atheist in such a setting.
>>
Gandalf mentions October and our dating and 24 hour time system in Rivendell.
That means LotR takes place after the Roman Empire.
>>
>>219129160
that's a localization
>>
>>219126603
They were once men.
>>
>>219126689
It’s different when god is quantifiably real
>>
>>219126523
Everything about hobbits is straight out of the 17th and 18th centuries. Much of the orc industrialization methods are from the Renaissance.

Middle Earth is not based strictly on the middle ages.
>>
>>219129160
>>219126523
Tolkien was Catholic and prefiguration literally explains all of this.
>>
>>219126523
Fuck Peter Jackson in his needle tracks for the fuckery he made out of The Two Towers
>>
>>219127779
Philosophers thought the sovl was in the pineal gland. It's just funny how current men believe people were retarded in the past. The average XXI man is a barbarian compared to the average European man from 1500
>>
>>219129160
Tolkien said that this was just him translating the time, in fact later in life he regretted saying middle-earth was prehistory earth and wanted to do a big rewrite but never got round to it. Cuz he died.
>>
>>219129160
And he speaks in a more or less modern English. It's part of the marvel multiverse
>>
pretty sure people knew about brains before 17th century lol
>>
>>219126523

A White dwarf and a White elf keep kill counts of the orcs and humans they kill and they are the good guys. While in Black Panther, a Black guy who keeps a kill count is considered the villain. I think they even say that Killmonger treats killing people like a video game.
