As there's a lot of talk about that recent movie, what makes a good scifi movie to you?
And what's your favorite scifi movie?

Good sci-fi = Military sci-fi, pulp adventure
Bad sci-fi = Everything else which is for troons and redditors

This is stupid, almost everything related to space today isn't related to the military
>>

Yeah that's why space is super gay and lame right now, they put black women up there to fart around. The more black women in an area the less interesting it is. It was cool when it was new and pioneering but in the last few decades nothing cool has happened at all

Most modern scifi is pure slop with zero restraint in the fiction part of the genre. Just children playing with space toys.

Dealing with the same familiar situations, but with cool tech.
Big think-provoking "what if" scenarios.

...What are you even talking about?

No, I meant something like "what if wagecuckery was outsourced to androids that may or may not have the capacity to eventually fully mimic real human beans".

get a job (in space)

Wagecucking, but in space, is a neat concept.

Good sci-fi has:
1) An allegorical tale in the guise of the impossible or incredible
2) Actors willing to understate everything
3) A sense of scale
4) Believable (in the context of the plot) design that isn't used as a singular excuse to right currently believed wrongs (that's what the plot is for)
5) Willing to take storytelling risks with conviction and confidence

You just described both hard scifi and soft scifi.
You can't have both.
Either the focus is accuracy and believability or nothing more than establishing a setting then focuses on social/political/religious themes.

Hard sci fi like the Martian or hard sci fi with some inexplicable eldritch bizarreness like 2001 or Rama.

Part of why star Trek has and always will be for faggots is that its stories just use the trappings of space travel. Most star trek episodes could just be a naval procedural set on Earth. They don't take advantage of the fact that you're in space and there are different logistical considerations to make for such expeditions. It just gets handwoven away with technobabble bullshit like warpspeed and gravity generators or replicators. What is the point of setting your story in space if it isn't an integral part of the story
