I, smoothhands (of letterboxd fame), recently viewed Benning's California trilogy. It is a singular vision. No individual part could be viewed independently. Wonderful pacing. A crisp 2:20 is the perfect amount of time to enjoy the shot before the violent cut to the next gift Benning offers us.

Daisies just now. I'm pleased to now know that Merci la vie (1991) is a French version of Daisies. The artistic choices of Merci la vie coincide too good with Daisies to not be heavily inspired by it. Daisies is like the student film and Merci la vie is the carte blanche re-imagination of an auteur's virginal artistic vision.

Just got back from the cinema where I watched Pickpocket for a second time. The first time I watched it I thought it was the most boring film I'd ever seen, having seen a few more Bresson films since I still think it is incredibly boring but I find Bresson's style of filmmaking so fascinating and so beautiful that I would probably go see it at the cinema a third time. I find it so interesting how he stuck so diligently to one very specific style of filmmaking over such a long period of time. Something very pious about it in a strictly filmmaking sense.

Still Mouchette is my favourite Bresson film

Not exactly. 50% of marriages end in divorce. The ones that don’t, maybe the wife is just smart enough to play her role to the end.
90% of men are ignored until girls hit the wall. These 90% then find “loving wives.”
