No, absolutely not. Akira is not that good of a movie. I had always been told it was this holy grail of cyberpunk anime but what it ended up being was basically a Paul Verhoeven flick without the humor. Yes it looks great. I appreciate what it added to the visual iconography of cyberpunk. But as a narrative movie, it simply wasn't any good.
