In the movie he was the guy giving the okays for almost every illegal activity besides selling drugs. He told Henry to go to Florida to extort that guy and bought into the restaurant knowing full and well he was going to tank it then torch it anyway.

IRL he was also regularly beating and killing people. Probably gave the ok to kill Tommy too but he deserved it.

In the context of the altercation with Tommy, no he didn’t. When I first saw the movie as young teen I thought Batts was an asshole and had it coming. As an adult I realized Tommy was being an insecure hypocritical bitch. Kinda like how I now see Ferris Bueller as a manipulative piece of shit and not some fun loving guy.

Batts did rape boys in prison though so there’s that.

He even preyed on people within his circle. He wouldn’t reign Tommy in with the restaurant then took over the business and raped it to death, ruining the owner who worked for him to begin with and who had come to him for help.

I don't understand the hype about this film. So many people seem to think it's one of, if not THE best movie of all time and when you ask why they're like idk man its just rewatchable and cool. Is that it? I don't even know if its in Scorsese's top 3
