Douglas Adams is great at writing comedic vignettes but struggles at writing a larger cohesive story, in that respect Terry Pratchett is very much superior

>>219176334This is a good point actually. While the book does have a plot that it's able to follow and see through to the end, the narrative is basically a series of sketches interspersed with humorous narration as a bridge. About as "un-filmic" as it gets.
I liked the TV show better.

The acting is good, but the second half is kind of boring. The whole bit with John Malkovich comes out of nowhere and goes nowhere. The whole final act is handled very awkwardly with the point of view gun. I still liked it as a kid, but it straddles a weird line between goofy and heady but doesn't commit.

They should have had someone more posh and neurotic in the role. Someone like David Mitchell, or Hugh Laurie.
Male and female leads had no chemistry. The romance plot was awful.
