I don't think them being Jewish was the main theme of the show. It was more about their sort of light feminist ideals clashing with them just being total helpless losers. These aren't "empowered' women, they're stoners who fail at almost everything they try, and rarely put much effort into anything they do. These kind of characters are just part of the New York City milieu. It was just Workaholics with women. Which was ultimately pretty funny to me. Perfect stoner comedy.I genuinely think more people (even like... right wing men) would find this show a lot funnier if they went in realizing how much they actually lampoon Feminism. In one episode Ilana even just blurts out "rape culture" out of context. There are moments from this show that are among the funniest in television history imo. But the only discourse around this show today is "haha smelly feminist #MeToo, Hilary Clinton slop" which means you probably didn't really watch the show...
