Just rewatched this for the first time. It wasn't nearly as bad as I remember. Even the ridiculous Blofeld is actually Jame's brother didn't bother me nearly as much. I feel like taking this as a standalone film without worrying about continuity too much, it's a decent little Bond adventure. Not the best, but not terrible either.
Yeah it was okay. The problem with Blofeld is not so much the "it was all me!" stuff as the disappointment of Waltz's performance. There was a lot of hype around him back then, and it was expected that he would do something interesting with the character. He did not.

The whole movie feels like it wants to be campy fun but can't quite bring itself to actually commit to that.
