Are these two fantasy series worth watching? How do they hold up in 2026? They were big in the 1990s, but what about them would be so different to newer fantasy series in recent years?

Xena is worth watching for the special dynamics between her and Gabriel if you catch my drift
Xena still holds up, and in fact looks like Shakespeare compared to the current slop Hollywood produces.
While they do have their ebbs and flows, it's overall a strong trio of series if you want to squeeze in Young Hercules just for some Gooseling.

my experience: I saw two random episodes of xena season 2 and they were really bad.the direction, action, effects, camera, acting were terrible. the only good thing was the hot girls. xena, gabrielle, callisto, aphrodite, etcI hope hercules holds up better, I was into it as a kid.

Xena is good but Hercules is pretty mid. Both enjoyable watches but definitely don't hold up in a funny way.
I liked the weird meta episode where they found the chronicles of Xena and they were used to pitch the TV show.

You have to watch them as they aired basically so it makes the most sense. If you watch herc first or xena first and then the other, it's just odd when you go back to the other.

Unless I don't remember correctly, English language 1990s fantasy and also probably historical stuff tends to usually sound American, not British. Movies like The Lord of the Rings and Gladiator changed the American voice trend in those types of series.
