Is this really that bad? Project Hail Mary looks worse. Like The Martian levels of Reddit.

Honestly, at least this had some neat practical effects and wasn't just Gosling on a plastic set talking with CGI

This was less than five years ago? Jesus christ if that's true it wins, I was going to say Don't Look Up

This had some cringey aspects but I never clocked it as full on reddit, and Michelle Yeoh kicks ass.

Don't Look Up would definitely be my pick. That reddit trash was insufferable.

EEAAO indulges in millennial humor a lot more, but is also a better constructed movie. What they did with symbology and weaving themes throughout it was really impressive, regardless of how obnoxious it was in the process.

Don't Look Up is definitely the most reddit movie, probably ever made. It's got the "FUCK DRUMPF!" and "TRUST THE SCIENCE, CHUD!" shit but it specifically speaks to redditors smug sense of superiority in the sense that everyone is stupid except the main characters and deserve to die.

Why do some of you get butthurt when your heckin' movie gets called, "reddit?" After all, the script is undeniably, intentionally or otherwise, pure reddit, and that's ok. It's loaded with cartoon-esque, unserious, unrealistic, cutesy, memespeak which doesn't really reflect the setting or how people actually talk to each other. Still, and despite this, after I suspend my disbelief and cynicism, I'm willing to admit that it's a fun, entertaining, well made, not overtly woke, movie, which is a rarity these days. It'd just be better, though, with maybe 50-60% less reddit.
I still give it 2 thumbs down! (That's a movie related joke)

In one movie it did a better superhero origin story and a better multiverse story than both of the big cape franchises that were pushing those plotlines at the time, and Michelle Yeoh is a stronger lead than 90% of cape films out there. This was in theatres at the same time as Dr. Strange 2 and blew it out of the water. Maybe it just looks good by virtue of its sloppy competition but hey a win's a win.

I now remember that Actor's Roundtable he did where he had a toothpick in his mouth the entire time (just like the character from Drive!!!) and James Franco was seething.
>>
>>219219314
The movie suffers from the fact they took the overall tone from the 1st person narration in the book. The book itself has a serious tone but the main character talks like Ned Flanders with a Reddit account. The movie ran with that and put a broad comedy spin on the whole thing. It should have been more serious even if the protagonist is goober.

That movie really pissed me off with the fact it wormed its way into all kinds of science shows and podcasts. You tune in for "The Science Behind 'Don't Look Up'" and get a producer talking about Trump for an hour.

>Bread and circus

Unfortunately the media you consume, the food that you eat, the adverts that you 'buy' into are all within the same basket. Everyone is (naturally) pleasured by the distraction (temporary escapism) of enterainment away from the mundanity of ordinary existence.

Ryan Gosling has too many asymmetries to be considered as objective 'good looking'. His other traits significantly boost his overall attractiveness.
>>
>>219223928
Why? He's still funny just acting normally. They didn't have to remodel their interaction to be so over the top. They softened everything for the movie. Even humanized Stratt when she originally was just a bitch who only cared about the project and knew everyone hated her.
>>

He sounds nasally to me, like his voice doesn't match his body or something. Some people look great on film but for whatever reason, don't have a kino voice. He's one of them. The less he speaks, the better. Is this apparent to anyone else or is it just me?

Grace's willingness to see the mission through wouldnt really make a lot of sense if his last interactions on earth were with a bunch of absolute cunts. By having them be empathetic but ultimately still choosing to throw Grace under the bus, it gives his choice between going back home and saving Rocky a lot more weight, as he is ultimately losing something by choosing Rocky, even if that something isnt much.

There are differences between entertainment and art.
If you read whatever novel genre fiction slop milking farm you are enjoying entertainment; if you read literature like the magic mountain you are enjoying art
If you watch slop like marvel/dc capeshit you are enjoying entertainment, if you watch cinema like fellini amarcord or kurosawa ikiru you are enjoying art.
The difference between art and entertainment lies in itself.
When you consoom entertainment you are talking about dopamine niggershit manipulation that took your money in exchange of being entertained for one or two hours in some dark room like a theme park attraction, when you are enjoying art you are learning about stuff and have that thing communicate directly to your soul.
You went to cinema or watch capeslop and think about something like "wow! Spiderman defeated his enemy for the fourth time in a row in this franchise" and you get nothing else after watching that slop; you watch fellini amarcord and you start thinking about life, missing an old simplistic adolescence days, titties, or you start to ponder about that family member that you havent seen, or anything and we're just talking about emotional layer in there, not philosophical, culture, historical, or other things that the cinema offered to your plate
