It’s a sign of shit writing to have a mystical ability or object that does everything.
Terry Brooks’ ‘Shannara’ novels does this; the elfstones basically do whatever is needed to move the plot forward.
Similarly the ‘Medium’ tv show (produced by the woman played by whatshername Arquette) has the main character displaying psychic powers that can do anything needed to advance the plot. See the future? Sure. Telepathy? Sure. Mind reading? Why not! Speak to the dead? Okay!

Actually if you were a true fan, you'll know the footage of them running away was lost in an unexplained fire. To hide the missing frames, George hired the best editors to create the high speed effect. That's why we never see it again. George simply forgot what abilities he made up to account for editing.
