Stories of puppy-love or childhood/teenage crushes are often kino, and there's nothing inherently wrong about depicting sexual desire or curiosity from the viewpoint of someone at that age. It's part of the human experience, and one that resonates a lot with people in that age group. I think it's possible to depict this kind of thing without "pornifying" children. It's just that we all have our heads in the gutter these days.
