And you know what? The CGI in the retouched versions actually enhances the film, the car chase scene is omegakino.
Lucas discovered the heroes journey and it broke his brain leaving him incapable of making anything other than fairy tale slop.

Honestly I never liked it. THX was way too pretentious. Talented film student kind of stuff. Star Wars was better.
