What did you achieve by that age?

Had sex with a 19 year old girl who got held back a grade.

A year earlier I started getting laid instead of exclusively fapping. It was a pretty big accomplishment.

I don't do things for ZOG points.

His short films went viral and Hollywood wanted a piece of that. Just like with David F. Sandberg and Lights Out. No, despite his surname, he's not Jewish. He was just a semi-unemployed, (now diagnosed) autistic guy making no-budget horror shorts in Sweden together with his wife.

>Although he currently resides in Northern California, Parsons has previously mentioned in a YouTube live Q&A that he is British-born. Friends of him have mentioned that he was raised in the United Kingdom before relocating to the United States

I'd sure as fuck love to have had an "underpaid grunt" dad who moves me to Hollywood as a kid and gives me all his contacts and gear.
>>

When trying understand how a teen can pull off the viral videos he's made I think if it more like a tik tok prankster that makes hyper believable frauds but instead of using his creativity to scam or for evil he uses the exact same braincells for good instead.

If you think of it like a very high functioning tik toker it's no so hard to wrap your head around how a mere teenager could pull it off. Because it's not like he invented the whole concept and lore by himself. Most viral tik tok videos are simply more refined iterations of what was memed before. Which is kind of what Parsons did.
So if you think of it that way it's nit so unbelievable.

Making a viral hit absolutely helped. I wouldn't call him a nepobaby, but his dad apparently working as a VFX artist would certainly help explain why he was able to achieve such quality on his own at such a young age (and I wouldn't be surprised if his dad helped him with things, as he should, but having an industry pro as a father and likely mentor from a very young age would again certainly explain how he achieved professional quality while still in high school)
>>
>>219253540
>What?
I was talking about Sandberg. Pay attention.

>I'd sure as fuck love to have had an "underpaid grunt" dad who moves me to Hollywood as a kid and gives me all his contacts and gear

First of all, they didn't move to Hollywood or LA, they moved to Northern California.

You realize that VFX workers are basically the only workers in the industry without an union? That's why they can be paid like shit and treated like crap. It's like you sad fuck losers thinking that having your mother work as a cleaner at a studio lot is some sort of insane leg up that makes studios throw money at their kids.

>>
>>219254491
With video the script is only half the battle. The other half is not having it look and sound like shit. Which arguably is just as hard at the amateur level.

So so many fanfic videos look and sound like shit and are really fucking cringe. It's really REALLY hard to not make an amateur dramatic video not look cringe. Which is why most amateur videos are comedies. Because the look and sound doesn't matter as much and quite often the shitty quality makes the video funnier.

And so many times I've seen people and Anons reference a fanfic video as an example of something that is supposed to be as good as the pros. And I just shake my head because they always have that cringe fanfic jank to them that is plain as day.
>>
>>219251651

I remember when I was 6, my parents brought me to a banquet hall. They let me loose to run around. Suddenly, I felt the urge to leave, and started looking for the way we came in. I felt like I ran around the building five times and couldn't find the exit. It dawned on me, there WAS no exit, and we were all trapped there, forever. I started bawling and panicking. So yes, I can relate to this phobia. But again, I was 6.
>>
>>219251819
The screen is not primarily a literary pursuit and screenplays, excepting some really great screenplay writers like Tarantino, are incidental. Directors have a way better shot of breaking in than writers, and writer-directors have the best shot of anyone. If you want a career as a writer you write books. If you really insist on writing movies you should probably learn to direct.

Probably the best bet is writing a book that is worthy of making into a movie.

The issue is writing is hard. Like REALLY hard. Just like anything worthwhile. You have to be in love with the CRAFT of writing. And the problem is most people are just in love with the end result. Which is why 99.999% if movie critics make shitty directors. It's because they are in love with the end result. Not in the craft if making it. Same with writing.

>Probably the best bet is writing a book that is worthy of making into a movie.
Yep, and then you can even write the script for the movie, like Maggie O’Farrell did for Hamnet.
>The issue is writing is hard. Like REALLY hard.
Yeah whether you’re trying to break into Hollywood or make it as a writer your chances are very slim. I’m not saying he’ll be successful, just that his chances are better just writing a book.
you want to succeed in as competitive a market as Hollywood you have to make yourself as valuable as possible. A mere screenwriter by himself is not very valuable, even if he’s great, because the screen is primarily a visual, not literary medium. You might be great. Doesn’t matter. You should have written a novel, because a random illiterate AFI graduate will still be a more valuable filmmaking prospect than you.
What IS valuable is being the full package. You’ve written a screenplay and you’re ready and capable of directing it. That’s how you get Robert Eggers, Ari Aster, Zach Cregger (I mainly watch horror lol). On the flip side, someone who can only direct and not write will still have a better chance than you. Look at Arkasha Stevenson, brought on to direct, for her first movie, a script that had been floating around for years, which turned into the First Omen. She can actually make a movie, so she’s valuable. Being a screenwriter by itself is just not competitive enough. No one cares. There are plenty of scripts. The filmmakers are what matter.
At least if you write a good enough book, YOU, as a writer, are the one with value.

I wonder why the real author never sued him. Maybe he tried and they settled for a lot of money with an NDA.
>>
>>219257507
>"Duhhh, his dad taught him After Effects" yeah, it's consumer-level editing software. Whoopee.
Yeah so what's impressive about that? You can do all this with AI now, why does he deserve money and every other "artist" and "animator" and "writer" deserves to die in a ditch?
>>
>>219258061
>What IS valuable is being the full package. You’ve written a screenplay and you’re ready and capable of directing it.

You have to be in love with the CRAFT of directing. As well as actually having the talent and eye to do it. Most people don't have that kind of passion or talent for for what it takes to direct something that is better than fanfic tier. There are a million and ten micro decisions that are the difference between pro level kino and cringe fan fic tier. Literally actually a million micro decisions. Nothing less that a passion for the craft will give you the strength and the will to learn the difference in what dicisions to make. As well as the actual talent to even see the difference prior to the final product. Most people don't even have one let alone both. Many such cases of writers getting behind the camera and shitting the bed. It's why nobody talks about Stephen Kings The Shining remake.

You want to tell a story that bad your best bet is to write it. Hugh Howly literally self published The Wool book series himself before it.eventually got picked up by Apple and made Into The Silo series.

He literally wrote the books and self published them himself before they eventually went viral and became a hit.
>>
>>219258498
