I was filtered, 2nd attempt of finishing this movie. This time I made it to 3/4What the fuck was he thinking?
It's a very basic metaphor for apprehension and anxiety of parenthood. Its supposed to make you uncomfortable. Not for everyone I suppose but good performance from Jack Nance and usual
>>219253046I saw it once, but fell asleep three times. I was watching it on my phone and I woke up the first time because it fell on my face.
>>219253046It's a Saturnine allegory and if you're not all that familiar with Greco-Roman mythology most of it will filter you
>>219253046You gotta see it at midnight, with other people.
>>219253163>Its supposed to make you uncomfortable. It's very effective.
>>219253046It took about a year to finish filming this and so the actor had to keep his hair like that the entire time.
>>219254277Do you think Larry David got inspiration for Kramer's hair from this?
>>219253046I prefere this version.
>>219254247the only lynch film in which he reached polanski levels of discomfort
OP here, why the fuck did his mother in law start kissing his neck when he admitted he slept with her daughter and impregnated her?
>>219253046I always find it hilarious when people say shit like this > I'm forcing myself to watch a shitty boring movie, because boring people wrote articles about it and said it was good.> The movie is unsufferable, uncomfortable and painful to watch, but I persist as if it was e life-saving surgery to remove a tumor. Why are you people like this? Seriously? If you like doing difficult things in order to change yourselfs why don't you start a hard college degree? Go to med school or something, go after a hard job that pays a lot. No, it's much better to watch a retarded movie.
>>219253046LYNCHED
>>219254502For some people it can be an exercise to confront unpleasant emotions in safety of their homes, situations or worldviews they don't get to experience throughout their lives.Good mainstream example might be Uncut Gems, overwhelming response to it was that it was 'uncomfortable' to watch. I believe that is because most people know someone who is this machine gun bullshit peddler and the movie gave them chance to be exposes to his behaviour for extended perior of time.Or simplest example - you never watched something unbelievably cringe, so much so that you either had to pause, fast-forward it or even get up and pace in the room?
>>219254502Stupid take, I tried to watch 2001 about 4 times and fell asleep/was uninterested through all of them. On the 5th attempt I was glued to my seat and it is now one of the best movies I have ever seen
>>219253046Out of Lynch, I've seen this, Dune, Blue Velvet, and Lost Highway. This definitely feels the most half baked and I've loved all the others. The first half of this feels great but it's around the time it gets to the pencil factory? Or closer to the ending it just completely loses me. But the family stuff and the baby anxiety is cool
>>219253046>What the fuck was he thinking?Other anons mentioned about the parenthood metaphor but the color grading and set design and general aesthetics are to show us Henry’s isolation and alienation in the world. The dinner scene is like being so high on weed and trying to interact with people
>>219254949Question is, did you do it because it was a good watch or because it is kinda required for MEDIA DIET?I was in similar situation only when I watched 9th Gate, because I fell asleep five times throughout it, it took me about a workweek to finish it, but I love the movie.
>>219255183I had heard it was a great watch and rated one of the best in the world but I struggled on the first attempts to see it (so I guess media diet idk?) but now I could re-watch it as much as possible.I understand what you mean about 9th gate I feel the same, except I haven't got to the loving it stage
>>219254331No, that was more like a last minute decision because Cosmo Kramer was supposed to wear a ponytail like his irl inspiration Kenny Kramer, but Michael Richards didn't have time to grow his hair out that long before the show started, so he improvised and it stuck.
>>219253046you gotta read the rose of the world to completely understand this movie
>>219254502>I always find it hilarious when people say shit like this >> I'm forcing myself to watch a shitty boring movie, because boring people wrote articles about it and said it was good. >> The movie is unsufferable, uncomfortable and painful to watch, but I persist as if it was e life-saving surgery to remove a tumor. A lot of stuff has a good reputation for good reason, not just because boring people like it. You never know. Eraserhead is a pretty interesting watch, for once in a lifetime.
For 30 years. I've seen this neighborhood change from pastures to the hellhole it is now! I put every damn pipe in this neighborhood! People think that pipes grow in their homes. But they sure as hell don't! Look at my knees! Look at my knees!
>>219254922sure, but if the movie is too artsy or too boring, what's the point of even watching it? Like, you can get to experience all those exemples you mentioned by reading a nook , by watching a moren interesting movie, by talking daily to your friends, coworkers, classmates, etc. You know, this Lynch guy and his movies seem to have a stupid cult surrounding them. For every exemple you gave me, there is a better, more interesting, more fun to watch movie presenting that situation. I think Lynch's movies are a classic case of "this meeting could have been just an e-mail". They are cinema projects straight out of some art school.
>>219256799meh , it's not what I seek in a movie, it's boring to me, just like all of Lynch's work.
>>219254422It could be a hyperbolic version of how some women see their grandkids as being their own kids again, so he was like her husband all over again as he is the father of her new child. You'd be amazed how common it is for grandmothers to really start taking over the parenting of a newborn and getting way too involved as if it was their own.
>>219254502I agree. If I don't like something I just turn it off.
>>219254949I watched it once and I liked it, and that was it. Like, why do you feel the need to push something through if it is not necessary? I don't get it, it's just a movie in the end of the day. I watched the clockwork orange , it was cool , but im done with it. I watched 2001 , it was pretty cool, but I was also done with it. I never forced anything. It feels like you guys consume movies as if it was food, like maybe I wasnt hungry today so I didnt finish all my pasta. Next day I will come to this same restaurant with a bit more hunger. Movies to me need to be a fun experience, not a challenge, for that there's life already.
>>219254502It can take time for some things to click or to catch you at the right time. There's some infamous album that I really didn't like when I tried listening to it but after trying again another 2 or 3 times at different points in time, it clicked, and it became a favorite. It can be similar with movies too. That isn't to say trying to watch a movie again and again like a dozen times or some shit means it'll click with you, but 2 or 3 is probably the sweet spot before it becomes you forcing yourself for no real reason.
>>219253163>being afraid of the most basic human behavior I had a kid about a year ago and it has caused me zero stress
>>219259057Exactly, change the channel or put some diferent movie on.
>>219258988>way too involved It’s called having a family unit anon
>>219253046you couldn't finish? I finally found a bigger bitch than me
>>219259201A grandmother should not be trying to replace the actual mother in parenting.
I'm on a David Lunch marathon, watched Straight Story the other day and nearly cried. Yesterday, I watched Elephant Man, terrific filmeWhat should I watch next? I'm thinken Dune but it looks kinda boring
>>219260468Dune is really bad. David Lynch disavowed the movie. He did it in a kneejerk reaction to declining to direct Return of the Jedi and regretting not doing it.
Is this even weirder than Twin Peaks The Return?
>>219253163>It's a very basic metaphor for apprehension and anxiety of parenthoodNo, the metaphor is much wider than that. Parenthood is just what prompted Lynch to tell the story, and obviously informed the story itself. But, frankly, Eraserhead is the ultimate coming-of-age story, as it tackles all the usual themes of that "genre", but is brutally honest.
>>219262383Nothing about The Return is particularly weird, anon.
>>219261868It's not bad at all. It was just ruined in the cut. Twice. Lynch only disavowed the latter version, not the earlier one, though it is true that not getting final cut soured the whole experience for him and made him not want to go back to the film ever again.Notably, he did still meet many actors on that set that he formed friendships and working-relationships with. Most notably Kyle MacLachlan, but also Everett McGill (Stilgar, Twin Peaks' Ed Hurley), Dean Stockwell (Yueh ,Blue Velvet's Ben), Jürgen Prochnow (Leto, FWWM's woodsman), Alicia Witt (Alia, Twin Peaks' Gersten Hayward). It's also worth noting that Frank Herbert, the book's author, loved the film and went on public record saying so multiple times.
david lynch is the franz kafka of directors. 14-20 year old boys think it's the most incredible thing they have ever seen/read. then they grow up.
>>219265990Spoken like someone who only knows Kafka via Der Proceß and Lynch via Mulholland Drive. You need to read/watch their shorts, respectively, to understand why they're respected.
>>219266183I've read the metamorphosis, the castle, the trial, a collection of kafkas short stories, and have watched every feature length lynch film + the original twin peaks series.I thought kafka and eraserhead were the shit when I was 14-20. then I grew up. I never even liked lynches other shit. at least you admit mulholland drive is fucking trash so you are starting to get where I'm coming from, maybe you're 19.I won't be watching any lynch shorts. kafka had one short story I liked about children playing soldier with each other. I definitely didn't enjoy it for the reasons he wrote it, and it definitely isn't why he's respected. he's respected for writing the metamorphosis and the trial. lynch isn't respected for making short films. he's respected for making twin peaks. for some reason.
>>219267240>every feature length lynch filmThat's why I told you to watch the shorts. Or even just the TV commericals. You're missing out.>eraserhead were the shit when I was 14-20.Funny, because Eraserhead is arguably the most accessible Lynch that isn't Elephant Man (which is just a Hollywood script that Lynch got to interpret) and Straight Story.>I never even liked lynches other shit. Also explains a lot.>I won't be watching any lynch shorts.Your choice. Embrace your ignorance.>kafka had one short story I liked about children playing soldier with each other.Kinder auf der Landstraße? Really? That's the ONE you liked? You really are what one would call a "basic ass bitch".>he's respected for writing the metamorphosis and the trial.Again, you show that you don't really know what the people who like Kafka like him for.
>>219253046It's so fucking boring
>>219267240I think people get too confused with considering something 2deep4u or whatever. Are Kafka and Lynch overrrated? Yes, but does that make them bad or shitty? No.
>>219253046Just wanted to goon to his waifu, he never wanted no overgrown sperm to keep him up at night is all.
