Project Hail Mary was kinda boring. It felt like a kids movie with zero stakes. So many quips it was like watching a marvel movie. The urgent problem with the sun being drained was solved so easily like it wasn't even a big deal at all. I don't even understand why the subs were being drained. The explanation didt make any sense.

>why the sun's were being drained.
I meant to say. The biggest mystery of the movie was explained away in a minute.

Yep, you hit the nail on the head. I didn't really hate this movie, it was nice in a lot of parts, but there was never a moment of tension. There was only one moment when Ryan Gosling's life is at stake, and then it's up to a literal rock with no face to provide the emotional gravity of trying to save his life in time. And then, we wait a while but it's pretty obvious Rocky is gonna make it. And then, the second moment of danger is when Ryan Gosling realizes the amoeba stuff is gonna destroy Rocky's ship, but there's no tension there either, he just immediately decides to go save him and everything is fine.

It might have been less "hard-science," but a true filmmaker like Michael Bay would have had a digital clock counting down the seconds until the sun dies before Ryan Gosling saves it at just the very last millisecond. We're watching a movie here after all! I want to feel something, dammit, not just just lightly amused by the silly jokes!

The book is a lot worse, the movie cut that down a lot

I was expecting an emotional Spielberg alien epic. Ended up getting jokes and playtime with I am GROOT. Such a disappointment.

Haven't watched but that sounds like it's just the Photino Birds from the Xeelee books.

Agreed, was cringe
Thought we were going to get an interstellar level kino but it was just some shitty kids movie with cringe dialogue
>>
the book was a little bit better about the stakes but other than that it was good

My mother has seen The Martian 8 times since it came out, idk why but she seems to have developed an autistic fixation on the movie. Should I buy her a ticket to see Project Hail Mary?

It was a movie for adult children.
