Fincher understood that Ripley doesn't get a happy ending - she is too inextricably linked to the alien and will share its fate. as ripley took the queen's family in 2, the queen posthumously takes ripley's in 3. her jump into the foundry with the queen chestburster is the logical climax of the original trilogy and a perfect, dark ending for the series that embodies the idea of mankind vs the indifferent horrors of the void.

Aliens is the movie everyone loved and which popularized the series into something everyone demanded more of. Not Alien. There is no horror root to go back to. Ripley barely surviving with everyone else dying is not a happy ending. You're a fucking retard acting like "le alien is inextricably linked with Ripley so they must fight until they kill each other". It's such an amazingly idiotic thing to say and believe. It's not true in any way. The third movie never needed Ripley back. The only reason they kept bringing her back is because of name recognition to get tickets sold, not because of some meta story intertwining destiny horseshit you're headcanoning. Three is an incredunly stupid ending and it fits that you would love it whole heartedly. They had a great opportunity to make an actual good third movie, but instead have made a dozen shit movies spinning in circles with no idea where to go because Alien 3 fucked everything up. Now we're confined to even more moronic prequel reboots because Ridley thinks his movie is what everyone like which is not true. Fans wanted more Aliens, not that 70s trash which would have been forgotten in obscurity without Aliens.
