Adaptations that take an existing IP and goes off the wall bonkers with it are much better than making it even 90% faithful while still getting crucial details totally wrong. At least it becomes a real creative endeavor for the writers and producers no matter how stupid it turns out in the end and that's much better than some lazy hacks who try to pretend it's a project they want to work on, but they really don't.

You know what I love about mud? It’s clean and it’s dirty at the same time.

Pizza status?
>>
>>219273899
That's the definition of the word "adaptation". You're adapting a story from one medium into another.
Being 100% faithful to the original is super dumb because if it works then it's just a copy and if it doesn't work like in most cases then you end up with a mess.
>>
>>219273899
You say shit like this but would you honestly watch Jodorowsky's Dune?
>>
>>219274568
It depends, I think. Jodorowsky's Dune was in the planning stages so they had all this crazy stuff that probably would not have made it into the final film and I don't think it's right for an adaptation to get weird just for the sake of it like the creator has to put their own personal stamp on it. I like Lynch's Dune for instance, but there's things like the milk cat that feel really out of place and nonsensically weird for no reason, but stuff like Baron Harkonnen having a skin condition and flying around makes perfect sense.

I hope every single last one of you is killed very soon so I never have to hear you fucking retarded mindless plebbitor cunts ever again.
>>

calm down nerd
>>
>>219273899
>much better
Agreed and it's not even close.

The best anime adaptations of manga come from the 90s when the directors weren't afraid to go balls fucking wild with the source material. The modern era of "IT'S JUST LIKE THE MANGA!!" is tepid and boring. There's no point to a 1:1 adaptation because all you're doing is projecting the same material through a cloudier lens. Shooping in color and sound doesn't make it better. It's like saving a jpeg of a jpeg.
>>
>>219274992
Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man's art direction deviates from the manga frequently. I wouldn't ever call it 1:1
>>
>>219274568
>would you honestly watch Jodorowsky's Dune?
Sure, why not? I like Lynch's Dune a lot. What's your seething, bitter, spitting, impotent point, zoomzoom?

It was love at first sight.

>Sure, why not?
Jodorowsky wanted a robot assistant for the Emperor. If you have more than a double digit IQ you would realize how outstandingly retarded that would have been.
>>
>>219275140
So what?
Why does that make you shit blood, zoomzoom?
What are you so upset and resentful about?
>>
>>219275152
>So what?
So you have a double digit IQ and know/care nothing about Dune. Thanks for playing, you can go back to aspirating on your own drool now.
>>
>>219275209
You seem very upset anon. Why are you having a histrionic attack over movies? How's your breathing right now? Do you need to get up and walk around a bit before replying?
What's wrong?
>>
>>219273899
I agree, especially if the adaption is totally different but still talks about the same ideas as the source material, like Harrison Bergeron or Starship Troopers.
>>
>>219275262
I think a lot of 80s and 90s action movies are pretty good examples, though they're not totally deviating from the source material it still becomes something more unique and independent from the source material. Like when people think of Blade Runner and Total Recall, they're not thinking of the stories the movies are based on.
>>
>>219275209
liking a book is not a substitute for a personality
>>
>>219275426
Being a purposefully retarded drooler is not a substitute for a personality either
>>
>>219273899
>goes off the wall bonkers
Then there's no point it being an adaptation.
>>
>>219275566
And yet history has proven you wrong. Hell, literally everything Stephen King ever wrote.
>>
>>219274992
>The best anime adaptations of manga come from the 90s when the directors weren't afraid to go balls fucking wild with the source material.
Name 3 that are not GITS
>>
>>219275566
I mean it doesn't have to be totally unlike the source material, but the closer it is to being 1:1 the more you're going to notice the differences and make comparisons, so a good amount of liberties is better than trying to make it really close and still failing to get it right.
>>
>>219276497
Sailor Moon, Ranma, Tokimeki Tonight, Magic Knight Rayearth, Slayers, Tenchi Muyou, Shadow Skill, Rurouni Kenshin. I'll include Trigun as an honorable mention, though that one's arguable.
>>
>>219276949
>Sailor Moon, Ranma, Magic Knight Rayearth, Trigun
lol no, they're as cookie-cutter panel-to-panel manga adaptation as one can be, only some with more generic filler than others.
>Slayers
>Tenchi Muyou
Didn't even start as manga.
>Tokimeki Tonight
>Shadow Skill
Not familiar with those, but quick research doesn't show anything "balls fucking wild" about them.
>Rurouni Kenshin
Maybe Tsuioku-hen.
None of them get even close to the total shift between Shirow's GITS and Oshii's GITS, especially with both remaining top tier iconic titles from each author (auteur?).
>>
>>219277263
>lol no, they're as cookie-cutter panel-to-panel manga adaptation
You are 100% factually wrong to the point of it being absolutely ridiculous, you absolute underaged retard.

Zoomer trash, you don't belong.
>>
>>219273899
Lmao that happens only 1% of the times.
>>
>>219277263
>sailor moon
>the same
there's no fucking way you're over the age of 20
>>
>>219274146
retard
Adapting to another medium never ever implied changing character, story or themes.

It just means reasonable changes to the presentation
>>
>>219277368
What's different besides some lore in late parts of the series (blac caultron etc...)?
Except fillers, as anon said
>>
>>219277408
galaxy cauldron I mean
>>
>>219277263
Slayers started as a light novel series, so it's still an adaptation.
>>
I miss when a Mario movie could be about Icke-ian reptilian people in the hollow earth plotting to take over the world with a de-evolution ray.

I mean, it sucked and didn't capture the charm of the games, obviously, but at least it had the decency to be creatively bad.
>>
>>219278758
Rocky Morton was trying to warn us! WE'RE the aliens!
>>
>>219273899
I still love this movie. It's goofy, corny as shit, had a terrible production, but it's such a fun ride. Also Bowser was supposedly modeled after Trump, which makes it even more hilarious
>>
>>219273899
Yeah man of steel is great.
