Why dont we get film noirs anymore?
we are literally getting one next month with nick cage
>>219279309does capeshit really count?
>>219279309isn't that a spider man thing?
>>219279299It's capeshit of the past. It's cringe right now. What's the point of a PI when the police and FBI are way better equipped.
>>219279323no it doesn't. capeshit is cultural poison that destroys every aspect of genre fiction that it touches.
>>219279333>It's capeshit of the past.No, that's westerns.
How does everyone not die in noirs? The amount of whiskey they drink is absurd. Like 6 fingers, straight. Every time they enter a new room.
Life too noir right now as it is
I just finished Chicken Police and am kinda looking forward to the sequel.
>>219279299Neo noir thrillers aren’t big sellers so there isn’t much interest in making them
>>219279333>What's the point of a PI when the police and FBI are way better equipped.Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. The detective in this kind of story must be such a man. He is the hero; he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor—by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world. I do not care much about his private life; he is neither a eunuch nor a satyr; I think he might seduce a duchess and I am quite sure he would not spoil a virgin; if he is a man of honor in one thing, he is that in all things. He is a relatively poor man, or he would not be a detective at all. He is a common man or he could not go among common people. He has a sense of character, or he would not know his job. He will take no man’s money dishonestly and no man’s insolence without a due and dispassionate revenge. He is a lonely man and his pride is that you will treat him as a proud man or be very sorry you ever saw him. He talks as the man of his age talks—that is, with rude wit, a lively sense of the grotesque, a disgust for sham, and a contempt for pettiness. The story is this man’s adventure in search of a hidden truth, and it would be no adventure if it did not happen to a man fit for adventure. He has a range of awareness that startles you, but it belongs to him by right, because it belongs to the world he lives in. If there were enough like him, the world would be a very safe place to live in, without becoming too dull to be worth living in.
Better off just watching the old ones
There was the Marlowe film four years ago, based on The Black-Eyed Blonde by John Banville and adapted by William Monahan + directed by Neil Jordan. But it was pretty bland. For one Liam Neeson is too fucking old for the role now. Unless you set it in the late 1960s/early 70s and it is about an old Marlowe he just wrong for the part. Just look how they airbrush his face on the poster, he looks like that Smooth Bernie meme from years ago. Also it seemed to have a bit of a limited budget and you can see corners being cut like actors having scenes together where all their interactions are over the shoulder shots to hide that they couldn't schedule them to be together at the same time.
>>219279299Crimes stopped being cool when it's done by minorities
>>219279325yeah, Spiderman Noir. technically noir, but ultimately just superhero slop
Last one I can think of was The Killer, that was quite noir
>>219279299the atmosphere got shaved off in favor of more generic whodunnits, which then branched off into either modern "thrillers", comedy, or action flicks. I also don't think modern writers could do the banter and prose.
>>219279344Back in those days they did die early actually.
>>219279299Only the River Flows was pretty recent. Chinese film, but it was good.
>>219279641You dont need the hammy 1940s wise cracks, look at LA Confidential
>>219279309that's not a film though it's a low budget tv show on a niche streaming service
Absolute kino, a shame they never adapted the other books. It would probably work better as a tv series though with how many books there are.
>>219279299What more is there to say with them really? Chinatown really tied a bow on the whole genre perfectly
Shamone... Toots.
>>219279299>a noire about investigating the death of the genre
>>219279299too masculine
>>219280490
>>219280513but the hero so often loses
>>219279299
>>219279299Walter Hills and S. Craig Zahlers next films are supposed to be noirs.
>>219279299Monsieur Spade was entertaining enough
>>219279299Neonoirs are released frequently
Liked what I saw of it
>>219280718I consider them film noirs too. And whats been done recently besides >>219279520 ?
>>219280750the perry mason books and series was not hardboiled or film noir
>>219280750My friend at hbo says this show lost over 100 mil lol. Shows like this are notoriously expensive. At least westerns can be done cheaply since it's generally mostly outdoors and the interiors are sparse. This shows and movies require a lot of money even for interior shots. Over 50k for interior shots that last like 5 seconds lol
>>219280847This show was though.
>>219280598YET HE TAKES IT LIKE A TRUE STOIC
