I don’t really understand why they’re playing it safe. This is literally the exact same shot in the first film HBOfied. They’ve done things like make Snape black as an outrage boosting tactic when if they’re going for “book accurate” they could’ve just done a young Snape to contrast with Alan Rickman. They just should’ve totally changed the aesthetic and done something new. Also, they should’ve just made Hermione black. That one was a layup.

Making the image dark hides any digital artifacts or colour adjustment too. Basically the less you can see, the less cheap it will appear.
