I'll be fine watching all the crap nobody would ever want to watch anymore on any number of free platforms/youtube.
This doesn't effect me at all.
What's that? Time for another episode of 'Woops'? from the very early days of Fox? Coming right up, for free, mind you.

theres literally nothing wrong with what the streaming companies are doing. they are doing the exact same thing that all tech companies do with their products, jacking up the price every year. netflix, amazon, apple, yeah theyre all part of the "big tech" companies for a reason, and we all know that most of you posting on here work as software engineers in tech, many for these same exact companies doing these practices, and you have no problem with them doing it and love bragging about how much money you make and that you work from home. so shut the fuck up. i love streaming companies and big tech.

I used to subscribe to BroadwayHD for a few months back when they first launched for (I think) $7.99/mo and in the emails they still send me, the monthly price is now $24.99/mo. Their selection is still extremely small, so I don't see why they justified the price increasing that much. Too niche?

Here in Australia I remember I could rent any DVD for $1 on Tuesdays until circa 2010 when I stopped renting. I used to have hardly any internet data at my parents since they didn't use the internet at all, but I'd go nearly every week to rent 5 or 10 DVDs just so I could rip them on my PC at home. I remember renting 10 new release DVDs one time and the guy behind the counter was completely bamboozled how I could possibly watch 10 movies overnight. I remember it taking about 30 minutes to rip a movie. Last time I rented a DVD was circa 2018 for an obscure Australian movie that wasn't even available to download as a torrent years after it released.

wut?
it's like netflix but pirated, it's a cloud downloader, which means all the content gets downloaded to their servers and then you stream it from their servers, protecting you and your ip.

install stremio and get the torbox addon on your pc, login, set it up, then download stremio to your tv, login, and hit the sync button which puts the addon and your credentials onto your tv

then any movie/show you look at will see torbox as a source for streaming

public libraries in america will often have dvds and games that are free to borrow for weeks. use these resources if you are desperate.

But the point is that you could watch anything you wanted without having to subscribe to some shitty streaming service. Look at the prices in OP, so if I want to watch one movie, even two or three movies on Netflix, I am already paying more to do that than if I had rented those movies back in the day. The only way to get value from streaming services is to watch every goddamn bit of shit they have on their platform.

Regardless, piracy is better and easier than ever, so I'm not complaining. Let the goy pay a second rent so that I can continue to get it all for free.

Now:
>turn on streaming service

>it's just gay streaming shows and "originals" as far as the eye can see

And 2-3 movies a month is more than enough if we are talking new releases. If you wanted to rent or buy older stuff there were tons of bargain bin offers. So you actually get worse value today because most new releases are still digital rental and don't go on the subscription platforms for a few months, meanwhile to watch older stuff there's no bargain bin, you have to sub to these fucking platforms and hope they have something good.

Netflix found a sweet spot between tech and law where it was still illegal for studios to own “theaters,” which streaming platforms could technically be construed as. So they got “streaming” rights for everything cheap.

Most of the “cord cutters” were going from broadcast to piracy Though.

New releases don't go directly to streaming services anyway, so it's still expensive to watch new releases if you don't pirate, because you have to digitally rent instead of physically rent, that's the only difference. Streaming subscriptions are mostly there to give you access to A: a massive back catalog of old shit and B: whatever original bs they are pumping out.

Being able to rent a new release and then get your filler from cheaper, older rentals or buying bargain bin could definitely be cheaper. And lets be realistic, most people don't just have one streaming service, so if you consider that people generally sub to at least two, and then that if you wanted to watch new shit you'd have to digitally rent anyway, it's definitely not true that watching movies used to be more expensive.
>>
Netflix flat out admits they dumb down their plots and dialogue because they know you aren’t paying attention. Characters will recap the story every episode since Netflix knows your eyes are on your phone, occasionally darting upward when there’s a musical sting or explosion.
And all the writers are spoiled nepo hires who have no idea how people talk outside of 21st century LA.
