The "emotional" scenes are corny as hell, the completely empty gas tank as far as ideas go, the inability to write a story within the constraints of their budget (Michael and Lucifer exchanging adobe after effects kamehameha for example). My favorite parts were the monster of the week episodes tbqh. The earlier mythology episodes were also pretty good until the scope creep became too much.

I read a book years ago (don't remember the title) where a couple of guys plus a bunch of homeless people in Los Angeles are battling some supernatural force/people based in Las Vegas. It felt like The Stand. But you eventually realize that things don't add up and by the time you're at the end you realize the guys are schizo/crazy and they and the homeless people are killing normal people that they think are fighting air the supernatural force. They get caught and end up in prison but still believe everything they hallucinated. Like I said it was years ago so I probably got the details wrong but that was basically it. I wish they had ended Supernatural in a similar way - Dean and Sam were in a serial killer murder spree across the country for 15 years and are finally caught.
