>protagonist dies 3/4 of the way into the film >deuteragonist and tritagonists are left to resolve their grief and provide closure to the story Why is this rarely explored in television and film?
>>219328101Django Unchained did that, and the last 25% of the movie was the worst part
That one gosling movie did that and it becomes a pile of dogshit
>>219328101Because why when you can save that material for the sequel
People who want an RDR2 movie are insufferable. I see what you mean though in terms of a story like that
It's not appropriate or the format. That section of the game lasts for hours. You'd have to have a series of movies.
>>219328227Why? The gameplay is fucking dreadful.
>>219328260I'm not even a Rockstar cocksucker but you're just wrong
>>219328101Picnic at Hanging Rock
>>219328125There was only 20 minutes left when Shultz died. >>219328158Filtered.
>>219328282Wrong about what? That rockstar makes bad games, that I had a dreadful experience? I don't expect you to answer because you didn't answer my first question.
>>219328260the gameplay is absolutely magnificent.i spent so many hours virtually camping in the woods, fishing during the day, hunting, and eating at the campfire at night. no other game makes little things like that so fun.
>>219328260I liked it, aside from how slow some mechanics like looting were
>>219328101The best character on Lonesome Dove (and arguably the main character) dies before the final episode (or part I should say, since mini series back then weren’t really episodes but ‘parts’)
>>219328101To Live and Die in L.A. is what youre looking for
>>219328382Yes, that stuff is well done. But you can have all that without the story missions. If the game was just doing all the side content, it would be fine.
Reservoir Dogs? We only see the immediate before and the aftermath of their heist.
>>219328260Filtered brainrotted Cod fag here, take shit slow and enjoy the American countryside and all the animals dummy. Not everything has to be shooting.
>>219329251Take things slow and read the reply chain before making dumbass assumptions about my experience.
>>219328101>ROLLO... TOMASSI... ;)
>>219328260I like sandbox games and just roaming around. I play ones that dont really have a story and just craft games. The story of rdr2 is just a big plus
>>219328101Games and movies aren't the same. That may be true when looking specifically at the main missions but for actual gameplay you can spend hours playing as John because you have control over the pacing
>>219328382You can literally do all that IRL tho, why would I waste my time doing it in a game?
>>219328101Pulp fiction has this, Travolta kind of just dies awkwardly. In a way fight club has this too. Tyler dissappears for a bit until the last 5 minutes
>>219331323Same. I just wish the moving and shooting mechanics were more akin to something like halo. Games like nier automata felt great to just run around in. Rockstar games have always lacked polish. They feel like pre alpha indie shovelware.
>>219331376But you can't do it in 1895.
>>219331560Go to any southern town and get back to me
>>219331524Playing with auto aim turned off isnt that bad in 5. Better shooting mechanics would make the player character too stiff and make other things not work as well.
>>219328101they did it with Sy Ableman
>>219328125and No Country For Old Men
i feel like rdr2 was so overpraised that it's flipped back around to being cool to hatei think the problem is it looks like it should appeal to everyone that plays games while it actually fills a fairly narrow niche. i really enjoyed it but its not the greatest story of all time, and definitely not the best game of all time. i can understand why somebody would be disappointed.
>>219331727How do you know?
>>219328101Because it doesn't usually work. There are only a few stories that work. If your protagonist dies, chances are your story is a tragedy. A tragedy ends with the death of the hero. You wrap things up as fast as possible after that.No Country For Old Men tries to do it, sort of, by transferring "protagonist" status across from Moss to Bell, but it doesn't work.Psycho gets away with it better, showing the story was not the story we thought it was, but Janet doesn't buy it 3/4 of the way through; more like half way.The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre I guess is a decent candidate. HB dies about 3/4 of the way through; maybe a bit later. It's easier for us to stay interested because we never actually liked him (and he wasn't the main main character, just the main one of three).Really not many good examples come to mind.
>>219328382>>219331323t. have no life
>>219328101It's rarely explored because it was already done perfectly and no one ever felt the need to do it again.
>>219332244Because it requires you to walk around level at all times. Name a game with good shooting combat and the ability for the character to move naturally in third person. Being able to do things like jumping, sprinting, swimming etc
>>219328101Literally, and I do mean actually mean literally here, every single instance of its use has resulted in a disappointment. Every single time. It’s just not enjoyable, and the messages and themes it contributes to are just not worth the narrative nuke of unceremoniously killing the protagonist
>>219331502fight club is just a ripoff of mr. robot
>>219331376Because doing it in real life is time consuming and most people don’t want to invest time and effort into developing these skills and gathering the necessary tools. Stop pretending to be stupid, it is unbecoming.
>>219328282>>219328305>>219328382>>219329251>>219331323He's right, the gameplay of RDR2 is absolute dogshit. Rigid mission structure scripted to hell and back, removing from the player the ability to improvise - in a sandbox game. The game provides zero challenges, shooting is piss easy with scores of braindead enemies that don't pose any danger.I don't deny what on a technical level RDR2 is a masterpiece and real feat in engineering. But that doesn't make it a good game. I can't imagine myself ever replaying it, the first time being this slog.
>>219328125The protag didnt die you weirdo
>>219332819>Rigid mission structure scripted to hell and back, removing from the player the ability to improvise - in a sandbox gamethats every sand box game bar minecraft>I can't imagine myself ever replaying itagain thats every sand box game
>>219331376>>219332351but you waste your time posting on 4chan, you fucking loser faggots.
>>219328382i bet you like driving back and fourth as an errand boy in GTA too dont you?
>>219332611Fight club is a rippoff a book and show that came out 20 years later?
>>219332611Unironically this.
Not really death, but Twin Peaks does this in a way. Coop is gone after the second season, and even though he’s present throughout The Return, Dougie is practically a different character. For years the other main characters have suffered from the loss of Coop, or the abuse of Evil Coop. Yeah he comes back at the end, but only to disappear again and lose once more.
>>219332402>not referencing the much superior John Wayne moviengmi
>>219333039>you waste your time posting on 4chanmaybe (You) waste your time, I'm just here to pwn the n00bs like you
>>219333472>Twin PeaksAnother shitshow, directed by some overrated director who's entire schtick was "dude, what if people behaved IRL like they do in dreams?"
>>219332531The word you need to look up and study in depth is interpolation. I will not entertain your question because you have moved the goalposts.
>>219333812Oh nice against the grain, contrarian response where you describe something in the most basic way to fit your opinion. How daring. Here’s your (You) son
>>219332402Whom do you think is the protagonist who dies 3/4 of the way through?
