There’s still an issue with having a black protagonist in a movie like “The Backrooms” even though he isn’t a racelift or historical inaccuracy. The fact if the matter is that when encountering black males, our natural inclination is not to assume their internal world is “just like ours” (as White males) nor are blacks a blank slate which can be anything, but instead they carry within them default assumptions which we as a White audience does (and should) presume unless it’s proven otherwise. These assumptions are: >He hates White people esp. White males>He sees all White people as “privileged, racist, colonialists, etc” >He holds weird stereotypes about White peoples he constantly obsesses about ie “ypipo don’t spice dey food.” >He unironically believes his ancestors wuz Egyptians, Hebrew, Greeks, Romans, Vikings, knights, Chinese, samurai, etc and that we “falsified” history to counter this. >He lust after and is desperate for White women. >He has lower impulse control compared to Whites and thus is more likely to act out in anger >He might have a criminal history, be deadbeat dad, or both. >Has 0 appreciation for Eurocentric aesthetics (eg baroque, classical music, brutalist, medieval, classical rock, etc. doesn’t matter which) and only appreciates about perceived “black” aesthetics (jazz blues rap Hiphop etc). The very Backrooms he calls “Beautiful” in the trailer ironically count as a “Eurocentric” aesthetic. But instead of being able to take this at face value or neutrally, it automatically makes him an “Uncle Tom” and a sellout. Blacks did this to themselves with their own attitude. >Hates seeing groups of White people exist without any blacks or browns mixed with them. Esp. White males. >Religious beliefs (if he even has any) are low-church Protestant, NOA, or black Israelites. All these things taken together ruin the cinematic experience.

Blacks, like pretty much all non whites except the Japanese, have no natural curiosity. Finding some kind of unnatural phenomenon would not elicit interest in a black man.
