It was alright. Like a 6/10. Chalamet was great and Shark Tank guy was great but it's the kind of movie you can tell wouldn't have had the buzz if they weren't campaigning for a best actor oscar. Good Time remains the best Safdie related kino.

Really good film that felt very been-there, done-that and should've been far better.
Implies that Josh Safdie is is a one-trick pony. Not as good as Good Time or even Uncut Gems.

They're all good though, even if Heaven Knows What is quite a bit weaker, it has a real feeling of authenticity when it comes to what homeless people are like. Marty Supreme just doesn't feel like the right movie for the stakes it ends up having. I know they like when shit goes crazy and people start dying, but it felt really out of place when bullets started flying. It doesn't help that I knew the bad goy antisemite hick would later end up in a firefight the moment he was introduced. Usually they avoid Jew fellation but that bit felt a little on the nose, and I say this as a Jew.

Benny is the better director but worse writer.
Josh is a really good director in his own right and clearly has more of a voice than Benny. But he lacks the confidence to exit his comfort zone. Benny's basically a director for hire. He's good at making films but I don't get the feeling that he yearns to express himself through them. I don't think he struggles to sleep at night because he's obsessed with the next film he has a need to make

Way too fucking long. By 15 minutes, I knew what the movie was going to be, and by 30 mins I was getting tired of Marty as a character, and there was still 2 hours left. I never walk out of movies because I want to make sure I see the whole product, but I was very tempted to watching this. It's an alright movie, it's technically well made, but I just hate the character of Marty Meuser.
