>>219340506I don't like to comment about things that weren't either in the movies, or exposed in interviews, and unfortunately we never got to see what Snyder and other directors were planning for the Green Lanterns or that Green Lantern Corps movie project. What i can tell you is that Snyder is a huge fan of comic writers like Alan Moore, John Byrne, and Grant Morrison, despite some of these writers not jiving so much with his own takes on these characters. Because of this what Snyder was trying to adapt was this interpretation from Byrne and Morrison about imagination being power and there being this godwave that could turn people into godlike beings in a way, including the fact that were several waves of this phenomenon. For example Darkseid and his people were New Gods, from the Fourth World, this after the gods of old sort of inspired by the Norse gods died in a apocalyptic all-out war.And Morrison played a lot with the idea that the DC heroes like Superman, Batman, and so on were going to eventually supplant them creating a "Fifth World". Morrison also liked to play the idea that time and nature is cyclical and because of that you had several versions of King Arthur, and several important groups of heroes made up of twelve. So Snyder was definitely playing with this idea. Ares was thought of to be the ultimate bad guy, but as he says in the movie he barely did anything and even his existence and power depend on humanity's nature and beliefs. This would have been even more apparent in the original third act that was reshot by the studio, where he doesn't fight Wonder Woman and just disappear. Then you've the Justice League more where we see the three gods, Zeus, Ares, and Artemis, helping humanity battle Darkseid. If you pay attention their actions and movements mirror visually that of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman in BvS when they fought off Doomsday. I didn't watch Shazam, so i can comment much about it but from the little i know they also played with a bit with that interpretation. So you're not wrong about your views regarding these movies.

Great catch. Personally, I’ve always believed that Snyder’s Superman also has a sort of metacommentary component to him, how his “arrival” in comics heralded the age of comic heroes. In-universe, I think he, and Kryptonians in general, inspire humanity’s imagination, but having humanity fixate on him doesn’t really do much for him under ordinary circumstances, and all that “godmaking” magic allows for other metas to come into being. And when I say “under ordinary circumstances, I mean that we still see it manifest in some extraordinary ones. When Perry White refuses to abandon that lady in the rubble, I think it’s intended to have two meanings - one that Perry’s heroic in his own right, but on the other, that Perry has faith that something’s going to save them, and it’s at that precise moment that we cut to Clark standing up to the full force of the World Engine, something he shouldn’t technically have been capable of doing considering how it was weakening him.

You're not wrong at all regarding Perry White. Most of the time when Snyder wants to tell something without spelling it out, he does so visually. So when you see in BvS that statue of Superman that Metropolis made to honor his heroism, the pose with his stretching his arm down for someone or something, that is the mirror image of White's action in that exact scene of MoS.
And here is what i said about Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman being depicted as the new incarnation of the older gods. I find it funny that Batman is not channeling Ares, but Artemis (the goddess of the hunt)

It's no wonder the people who love these movies tend to have grown up in fatherless homes. While the people who hate them, blindly, are trannies with a grudge against men.
And here's Zack Snyder pretty much stating the obvious, that the heroes of ancient times shown in the prologue of Justice League were sort of like the heroes of their time, and that the superheroes of today were pretty much following their steps even if they aren't aware of it. That everything is cyclical in a way.

Here's another thing, showing that it wasn't just about being a hero in the physical sense. BvS specially draws parallel between Superman and King Arthur, but in between them also the two and the president John F. Kennedy, showing that JFK was a time in America history where you sort of had this heroic Arthurian figure.
