Is this objectively the best book to film movie?
>>
>>219341152
>>
The Shining but only because the novel sucks by comparison
>>
>>219341387
>>219341991
Lmao. My first two choices and what do I see? Satantango is a much better novel but The Shining obviously is better as a film.
>>
>>219341152
That would be silence of the lambs.
>>
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
American Psycho (great book though)
The Luck of Barry Lyndon
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Shining is a good pick

>what if the Terminator was slow, boring, and pretentious??
its trash.

>>219341152
EWS. Stanley was seriously good at this, taking kind of ho-hum and unremarkable source material and making something great out of it.

Night of the Hunter mogs
>>
reading is for homosexuals

>Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
My pick as well
>One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Quite a bit different than the book
Filth was also a very good adaptation
>>

I think Kubrick deliberately adapted writing with room for improvement because it's easier to see what needs fixing in somebody else's work than your own, or adapting a perfect book/script. Meant he didn't need to start from zero but also allowed him wiggle room to change stuff, it's pretty genius

I clapped when nothing happened! it made me feel smart and like a big boy!
>>

Lol, no, everything William Wyler adapted is better than this.
It's good for a 21st century movie, but it doesn't compare to the great director's films.

I love both book and movie of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I don't think are that different either, though the book is more intense and psychedelic, the movie captures the gist of it and does its own thing. I'd say it's a very successful adaptation.

Stop brainrotting you adhd zoomer subhuman.
>>
>>219341991
Laughable.
>>219342216
It sure does. Anything from the 30s - 70s does. In what fucking world do the Cohen brothers make great movies?
>>
for those that actually read Suttree is an all time favorite book and I'd much rather get a drama series adaptation of it than Blood Meridian

>>219342444
checked
>>219342242
absolutely OFOCN is a very different book than the film but both are great regardless

Most Western films are superior to their literary source. Western Novels are actually kinda shitty as literature but their simplicity makes the movie adaptations incredibly strong.

The most well read booktuber steve donoghue says film adaptations of books are better 99% of the time. He says although he isnt a fan of films, they get to the point faster and remove filler.
>>
>>219342719
Based steve. He's the best and his TDS is funny as hell. He's always showing up on some zoomers podcast and shitting on Cormac McCarthy saying he won't be remembered in 50 years
>>
>>219342204
He really had a knack for it, on the other hand Lolita which is considered a great book(haven't read it) mad for a meh movie
>absolutely OFOCN is a very different book than the film but both are great regardless
Yeah
Don't think blood meridian could be made into a movie nowadays, suttrre has a better chance of being something good just don't let james franco near it or any other book to be desu
>>
>>219342719
So why isn't he a fan of films then?
>>
>>219342921
BM could have never been made into a movie. It's too bookish, the prose poetry is next level.
