Why was old Batman so silly?

It is weird because no one would have liked the comics if they were this gay bullshit with a middle-aged batman prancing about with his little boy there with him. People aren't this stupid but the studios were like "yeah ok you want batman here's your batman fuck you"
>>
He is a crime fighting bat
>>
>>219354168
It was funny becuase both adam west and burt ward played it straight even though all this stuff around them was absurd
>>
get his fucking rags off!
>>
>>219354168
this show was aimed at kids (like 5 year olds, not teens who were the target audience of comics)
>>
>>219354168
It was a show for young children that was supposed to teach basic morals and manners while also being funny and engaging, the mysteries were intentionally simple so the kids could feel clever by figuring them out before Batman did, it had fantastic casting and everyone involved knew exactly what they were making but still gave it their full energy

Nah, that's genuinely what Batman comics were like at the time. Silver age comics (they're comics from the 50s/60s) are bananas. Basically there was this moral panic about comic books near the end of the 40s and as a result comics got censored to hell and back, the result was that comic book writers got SUPER goofy to compensate. This ended at the end of the 60s/beginning of the 70s and that's probably the version of Batman you're familiar with now.

Adam West Batman is unironically a near perfect adaptation of THAT specific era of Batman comics.

When will we get the cinematic adaptation of this classic tale?
>>
>>219354168
It's a fun kids show I enjoyed as a kid in the 90s. They aired the reruns all the time.

there were sometimes crime stories and the comics became more like the show when it got huge but yeah honestly 60s Batman is probably still the most accurate.

Not part of the plot/acting = fanfic, which the ambiguously gay duo cartoon was.
>>
>>219354168
Because the batman comic were children stories of a middle aged man prancing about with his boy while in their pants.
it wasnt until much later, probably not until the late 80s or early 00s that these old comics became more gritty and mature.
>>
>>219357549
Maybe that sort of came later but 60s and 90s made Robin out to be some teenager who lives with Bruce but when I actually read some comics he treats them more as adoptive sons, at least with Dick and Jason

The Comics Code Authority, that little seal you see in the upper right corner of the cover, had extremely oppressive rules throughout the 50s and 60s. They basically killed horror comics and put extreme restrictions on depictions of violence and sexuality, forcing every comic to be comedic and child-oriented. These rules were finally relaxed a bit in the early 70s. This Batman issue from 1973 is largely considered the turning point for Batman as the Joker showed up again after a long absence and was finally allowed to kill people again. Writer Denny O'Neil was determined to dispel the campy image Batman had built throughout the 60s and laid the groundwork for modern Batman. Although it was probably the Tim Burton films that finally replaced the 1960s TV show in the general public's consciousness.
>>
batman is a silly concept. a rich guy learns karate and wears a costume to fight crime
>>
>>219359165
is there a good starting place for Batman/Detective Comics?, most of the Batman i've read were standalone books.

I will never forgive the Arrowverse showrunners for going out of their way to show the Adam West Batman universe getting erased on screen. Fuck them.
>>
>>219354168
Because it’s from a comic book.
Which is meant for kids.
It’s why people say “grow up” to capeslop threads.
>>
>>219363900
You're so mature. I bet you watch Scorsese movies.
>>
The real answer is cuz it was the 60s and this was one ofnthe very first tv shows in color, so the studio wanted to go extreme with it cuz of the newness. Campy show? Yeah, but still chosen to lead the charge in colorized tv

All capeshit is corny, it's made for kids
>>
The genesis of the '66 show is interesting because it was based off how the Playboy theater in Chicago would host viewing parties of the old serials for laughs, basically like what MST3K did with a bunch of drunk guys laughing at stuff they watched as kids and some college students watching ironically. They had been trying to launch a Batman TV show for a bit closer to the Lone Ranger, played more straight, but because the serial was popular among an influential market and the cornball feel of it was part of it, they went all in on the campy tone for the show and to make it funny.
The Batman comics were silly, but mainly because they thought kids were retards and just wrote some bullshit. The 66 show was more self-aware by design.

Media targeted at kids can be thought provoking and even deep. The problem with capeshit is that it's inherently absurd and ridiculous.
>>

Yeah exactly. Even something camp can be insightful. Early Batman was camp but it was also just stupid.
