This is pure nightmare fuel. What the fuck.

>>219368681Some of the imagery used in this film is designed to burn into your subconscious. It could probably be described as a cognitohazard. It's good for what it is - an anti nuke documentary - but I wouldn't recommend anyone watch it unless you want to feel very depressed after.
>>219368793Funny, I dont really remember much from it
>>219368793Same deal with The Chekist. Films made to rape the soul.
>>219368793The thing I remember the most is how was waiting the entire movie for Jimmy to show up again because they never show him dying. He's running towards the home of his partner and that's the last you see of him. I was perplexed to reaoize that was it, even though he was set up to be the protagonist.

>>219368681I have a different opinion of Threads. Before the attack, Sheffield was full of whinging Poms and it was dreary and raining everyday. After the attack, there's less Poms and more sunshine. Russia did Sheffield a favour and made it better.
>>219369313And why did he have sex with that pubslut if it wasn't going to come back later? I thought his pregnant woman would have bummed into her later in the film and she too is pregnant.
>>219369313>>219370522You're just used to the way hollywood handles those tropes. Jimmy probably died but the mystery of what happened to him is the most true to life aspect, people go through that every day. Cheating on Rose with the bar girl is one of the scenes of abundance that gets taken away by nukes, it's contrasted with Bob and Rose linking up asexually later and Rose's daughter having feral caveman sex.

Nuclear hellfire would be a fitting end for this godforsaken place
>When asked about its plans for surviving nuclear war, a FEMA official replied that it was experimenting with putting evacuation instructions in telephone books in New England. "In about six years, everyone should have them."The cold war was a complete circus.
whoasubtle, but I bet my fellow intellectuals noticed
>>219372412Not everyone is a depressed loser.
>>219372412even a full blown exchange would only involve a couple thousand warheads, aimed at strategic targets and large urban/industrial areasit would be mostly contained in the northern hemisphereradiation will be localized, nukes are designed to airburst for maximum area of effect. there have been hundreds of tests since the 50s and the planet is fine. radiation wont have long term consequences.nuclear winter is a joke. airburst nukes wont nearly move enough material into the atmosphere to cause an effect on the climate. modern cities/urban areas arent even that flammable. the largest volcanic eruption in recept history moved 80 square MILES of material into the atmosphere and it only amounted to one cold/rainy summer.even if we assume completely ridiculous numbers like 99% casualty rate from nuclear war worldwide, that still leaves 90 million people alive, more than the roman empire had at its peak.more realistic is ~15% in a full blown exchange (this includes starvation casualties after) the vast majority of all places in the world wont feel a thing from nuclear war.it would be a terrible tragedy and alter the trajectory of human civilization forever, but it will not make humanity extinct, not by a long shot. we would bounce back after a few decades, after a century tops.
For some reason anti-nuclear propaganda is often really high quality and well doneThreads and Chernobyl both fit this, blatant doomerist propaganda but also a great watch
>>219373342Very likely it was all backed by the KGB in some way or another. The idea of the nuclear winter itself was created by them.
I watched the first 45 minutes and it was really boring. And being in the UK, everybody looked so ugly it was fucking distracting. Is recommending this move on /tv/ some kind of joke or meme?
>>219369834I did not realize that in the end they also were speaking like cavemen as part of the downfall of civilization. I thought they just had British accents.

>>219373932Maybe you're baiting, but if you stopped 45 minutes in, that's shortly before the nuclear attack happens. You missed the whole point and core premise of the movie
>>219372412A man of culture, I see. I, too, wish for nuclear armageddon.

>>219368681I've seen it all but Threads is the only movie that scares me because of how utterly nihilistic it is with the irony being that its Director, Mick Jackson, went on to Director LA Story, one of my favorite comedies......https://youtu.be/0eCSmfP4g2c?si=s9ExPmFFMMB1sNiXThen The Bodyguard in 92 that I have nothing to say about....https://youtu.be/cndM_b_ftpw?si=GHbMMLXvqXEtLUbU!!!FACT!!!

>>219376697The ozone damage from a full scale nuclear exchange would push humanity much closer to extinction than what he says. Yes it would recover after a few decades, but in the meantime everyone would be cooked by UV and be prematurely aged, all kinds of cancers, cataracts, more difficulty birthing healthy children, and so on. And worse than that, the UV would make it much harder for crops to grow, everywhere, whether the bombs dropped in your hemisphere or not. Your best efforts at farming, and all the radiation exposure you're getting from going outside to do it, might barely yield anything
>>219376135>People post about this movie for years but have never posted anything other than this picture of the bandaged policeman, is this all just a gaslight? The image just ended up being iconic and can't be explained as to why, it just is!!!FACT!!!

>>219373932I think filming in the norf was a brilliant choice on their part. Why spend money building a set and hiring makeup artists when you already have a grim wasteland crawling with bizarre mutants
>>219373093Most of the survivors would be Africans and South Americans.
>>219377376Now THAT is a horror story.
>>219377193>you might like fail safe tooFUCK, I forgot about that masterpiece!!!FACT!!!
>>219373093the real redpill is realizing the fearmongering was all power projection form both sides. Nukes were used twice and luckily were very effective, but no one has any idea how to use them strategically or if you'd even want to, since murdering millions of civilians doesn't go well with the public. Those shits are collecting mold in launch sites and could very well be extremely underwhelming in a real conflict.Imagine a nuclear war happening but everyone realizes tying IED's to drones is much more effective. We stopped using gas not because of ethics but because it sucked as a weapon.
>>219376998the ozone layer was at 50% compared to pre-industrial levels in the early 80s and I dont remember the world ending.layer strength depends highly on location high altitude weather patterns. sure, the northern hemisphere would be fucked, but it would be even more fucked from the nuclear blasts.and the ozone layer regenerates naturally, even a total collapse would rebound after 15 years. with the massive disruption in industry emissions following a nuclear war, it would probably recover even faster.and cancer works on a statistical likelihood, and you can take precautions from outdoor field work to protect yourself. there are crops that survive increased sun intensity better than others.humans are extremely resourceful when push comes to shove. it would be hard decades with incredible loss of human life, but literally everyone starving because le potatoes dont grow anymore is a laughable scenario for human extinction.a nuclear war would be a major setback for human civilization, but it wouldnt be the end
>>219377507Lets not get too crazy. Just because it was an exaggeration to show nuclear winter knocking civilization back to the stone age doesn't mean nukes are a mere weaponry fad. The science behind their yield predictions is well established and terrifying, the fact that you can even make a movie like threads shows nukes aren't something to take lightly.
>>219368711What the fuck? Like seriously, who thinks like this?
>>219368681Yeah, it isn't something to watch in the current climate or if you're feeling a little down.I liked the part where the politicians were left in a bunker and starved of oxygen.
>>219368711The Soviets had a dead hand system. The hawks would have legit caused a nuclear holocaust even if they totally neutralized Soviet command.
Threads is based off the "square leg" simulation the UK government made in 1980, which presented the idea the USSR would use only high yield nuclear weapons against British targets, which was criticised and many of the targets shown in the simulation made no military sense. Some parts of Scotland refused to even be a part of the simulated survey. I'm pretty sure at that stage anyway nuclear weapons yielded much less fallout than previous generations (like during the cuban missile crisis) when bombs detonated much lower to the ground.
>>219378306sure they did buddy.their bureaucracy didnt at all just feed bogus numbers to the people in charge to fill some quotas.dead hand my ass. who was gonna hold those planners and engineers responsible when moscow is nuked?"yeah we totally have a secret system in place to annihilate the americans even if a first strike catches us by surprise" is fantasy bs. if it actually existed, this shit would've misfired so many times during the 90s when everything just fell apart in russia
>>219376135It's truly a miracle that people post pictures that attract attention to a certain subject. Wow.
