Late 90s audiences had grown tired of that and wanted deep themes and edgy camera-cuts that you could talk about and sound adult talking about "Muh this is Plato" and "Bruce was Ded all along how smart on rewatch"
Now we've basically got the 90s-ification of those early 00s themes, Multiverse bullshit and Psychological thriller twists abound on oversized budgets covered in CGI.
