People are already forgetting about it. This is the definition of a flavor of the month movie. Zero longevity.

Why does shit like this and The Martian have so little staying power? The Martian was like the biggest thing on release and then everyone just forgot about it less than a month later. I can't even watch it again without cringing at the reddit quips, the Glover scenes and the way the chinks literally sacrifice progress on their own space program to save someone from the same country that banned them from the ISS lmao.

It's like the sci-fi version of Sorkinslop.

The martian was literally NASA (USA government) funded propaganda.
This isnt even some tin foil hat conspiracy it was literally made to get the burger brain excited and back future space travel.

This movie is great though. A cool bro alien movie, no romance subplot bullshit, no faggotry.
If it got rid of every woman and negroid and replaced them it would be a 10/10 all time great.

It was good and pretty soulful but it definitely tried a bit too hard to be quirky and wholesome chungus, I chuckled quite a bit at some of the jokes but at some point the humor kind of undermines the message of the film and lessens the stakes. Some of it really felt like focus tested studio humor to me. (Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong if you've read the book) The final scene was a bit too hokey for me too. Overall though it was a well made blockbuster with a nice feel good vibe. Goose and Rocky's relationship was well done and that was clearly the important part.

The reason why Gosling is a 'literally me' person is the mere fact that is has a severly asymmetrical face that is way more relatable to the common man as opposed to other hollywood actors. Personality is one thing but unfortunately face is everything.

I prefer even The Martian above this. I still don¡t know what happened in the movie. I just remember the crab and this dude talking and making jokes and funny dances. I just know there was some type of thing eating the stars but I still don't know how can something survive in the surface of a star.

he concludes its completely heat and radiation immune, because it feeds on it at such extremes, thats also why they use the Astrofages for fuel, because they literally gobble up so much potential energy - that its a cell, just means it has a plasma membrane, nothing else other than that.

I haven't watched it yet.

This movie felt like the same self-aware quirky humor I've put up with for the past 15 years, backed up by a nonsensensical premise and dogshit science.
Why did they have to send a human and not a drone? Never explained. The world government told him his life was worthless and he needs to die for them? I guess this is supposed to be uplifting.
The movie needed a science advisor and obviously didn't have one. I guess all those "I fucking love science" t shirts will do.
>>
That last scene where he is teaching the crab alien children almost made me walk out of the cinema. Ohhh so cute, look at all those little crab aliens! I don''t know maybe I was wrong about the type of movie I was expecting, I thought it was going to be something more epic and dramatic and less comedy and cute.

>Why did they have to send a human and not a drone? Never explained
It was explained in the first ten minutes when the computer told him a message to earth would take 11 years to get there. You can't remote control a drone, and they didn't have the tech to make one capable of thinking up solutions on the fly or being sentient enough. It was BECAUSE there was a human they succeeded.

They should have left in the coma resistance gene plot part.
It explains better why Grace has to go, how he's even more of a coward at the start for not going despite being so suitable, why they kept him around in the first place, why the other 2 astronauts probably died, and why Stratt wasnt actually being unreasonable by sedating him
In the movie they're like "we can't delay the flight any more" despite the whole mission being done on the scale of decades
>>
>>219404596
What? How? It's just an energy source. Exploding monkeys I would understand but how do astrophages cause rage virus now? That's against the heckin science!

I liked the movie less than the Martian. Basically, I think the entire part on Earth should not have been in the movie at all. I really did not care about any of it, and it serves absolutely zero purposes in the actual plot since Grace only remembers the full picture at the very end when he's already found a solution, and obviously he's not going to hesitate about saving his planet.

If you cut out every scene on Earth and replace them with simple exposition at the start of the movie (to explain what astrophages are and why they're a threats) and at the end (to explain why Grace had to go) you can focus more on the two things that were more interesting
>How to communicate with an alien species that is very different from us
>How to stop the astrophages from destroying Earth's ecosystem

As it stands, point 1 is basically solved early once they get the text-to-speech software set up, and point 2 is actually very limited in its science. Basically the only hard part is getting the sample of the planet's atmosphere and getting out, everything else was pretty standard for Grace and Rocky and the entire process of breeding a specific strain of bacteria suited for Venus was handwaved.

In fact, although I liked the relationship between Rocky and Grace best in the movie, I think the movie would've been more interesting if you just removed everything about it and just focused on the simple question :
>How would a crew stranded on a "realistic" spaceship in a remote solar system be able to take a sample of a planet's atmosphere when they can't afford to get close to it?
That's an interesting to, excuse my phrasing, "science the shit out of it". It's a bit of an escalation on the Martian because they have less resources in some way and less safety nets, while also being a subversion because they're up in space instead of down on the ground.
>>

The earth scenes in the book represent his memory coming back
>>
>>219403109
Bullshit. You have tiktok and youtube shorts cutting up famous movie from decades ago but that doesn't affect their value. You now have people calling dad rock music "tiktok music" because it became popular there. No one outside of tiktok gives a fuck that Alice in Chains is popular there. Literally has no sway in their staying power. Movies today are just not as impactful. At least the mainstream ones.

It's just a mechanical arm capable of doing some elementary first aid. It's somewhat impressive but not a real stretch by today's standard. The AI is basically on the level of those customer supports botchat.

Neither of those are advanced enough to solve a problem when the people who built them had no idea about the solution.

>doing nothing while everyone dies freezing out their asses in the 20 or so years the guy (and later the probes) is in transit
>>
>>219415508
Yeah. The biggest plothole in the movie is that Astrofages, if they were real, would solve almost literally every single science hurdle we have becauce such a potent and easily manipulated energy source would open up almost unlimited possibilities. Humanity could literally just say "screw this" and build a massive ark and leave earth with near infinite easily replenished fuel from any star they come by.
