Just marathoned this Shakespearean Kurosawa epic, what did I think of it?
My favorite Kurosawa.Maybe High and Low, that's pretty good too.
epicepic for the win
I have to see it next week!
>>219381478I also watched it for the first time a few days ago. I liked it, insane set pieces, specially the battle ones with 1000 extras in it. Kurosawa was a mad man, I can't imagine how hard it was to shoot those.
>>219381478It's shit. Kurosawa failing once again at tragedy because he's incapable of steering away from laughable melodrama.
>>219381867all japshit is muh kabuki stage play and shieeeeeet. it just comes off goofy and down right fucking stupid. sad!
>>219381558this but post-ironically
>>219381478Great as a Shakespeare adaptation, falls a little short as samuraikino
>>219381922actual kabuki is much more balanced and subtle than what these directors do.>>219385723not a good adaptation. only scratches the surface of what lear is really about.still like the movie tho.
>>219381558>Bonzai!
It was kinda boring and jews ruined the colors. I expected more.
>>219381478it's one of the greatest films i have ever seen
>>219381478I was reading the screenplay the other day, it expands a bit on the religious themes, and some cut scenes>>219381821>specially the battle ones with 1000 extras in ithopefully i don't break the spell but it's much less than that. They had 20 (western american) horses in total. He is just filming using his usual 3 camera way and cutting between themI recommend watching A.K. by chris marker for a behind the scenes, it's a bit complentative but worth it for Kurosawa fans, another thing that shocked me is that it was filmed in winter and everybody is freezing their balls off and waiting for weather for days, I really though it was summer>>219381922>>219386241its not kabuki is Noh theatre
