True enough you can certainly tone things down and convey the information differently like in Disney´s Sword in the stone the movie start point is on Arthur´s birth so Uther´s lust and rape are omitted. Similarly on the movie the first knight the relationship between Lancelot and Guinevere is presented more softly and romantically so yeah, you can kind of be less sexual about those events if you want but you end up with very different movies.
