What am I in for? I read the Crichton book when I was like 14
>>
Anti-Ape laser
>>
>>219384213
Tim Curry has a funny accent and they kill gorillas with a laser beam.
>>
>>219384213
What is it about monkeys that makes them so funny?
>>
People are going to say "kino" but it's godawful
>>
>>219384213
cheesy fun
>>
>>219384213
I like it. Its a good movie.
>>
>>219384213
Pretty enjoyable

Hot air balloon. Talking monkey. Satellite phone. Ghostbusters guy
>>
>>219384213
Awful shit. Love it. Fun as hell.
>>
>>219384213
Anti-Gorilla lazer beam and explaining to a friend in the room that yes, hippos are actually really dangerous and territorial.

This was the only bad part

True shit. Hippos are the #1 killer of humans out of all animals.

Joy of dance, lack of reading comprehension, living on ebt

Jungle kino
>>
The book was bad and the movie was also bad.
>>

>The book was bad
The book was great. You have awful taste.
>>
>>219384213
>What am I in for? I read the Crichton book when I was like 14
Its basically the same plot as the book, but there are differences here and there. The book was better though
>>
>>219385267
The book is always better. No exceptions.
>>
>>219384213
>What am I in for? I

The first part of the film when they're on an expedition to get to the lost city going through bumfuck nowhere Africa dealing with third world warlords is a lot of fun. Ernie Hudson and Tim Curry are both great, unfortunately the film flopped and fucked both of their careers. The end of the movie is very silly and over the top; but its still fairly entertaining slop.

I'd say its worth a watch. You get about 70% fun African action adventure and about 30% scifi monkey nonsense.

Neither Ernie Hudson or Tim Curry had a career to ruin.
Tim Curry is always in low budget kino.

Its a fair point; but this was supposed to be a movie that was going to give both of their careers a boost because it was a big budget blockbuster and instead it had the opposite effect because it flopped and everyone had unrealistic expectations about it because they expected it to be the next Jurassic Park.

Ernie was great in this

I remember the merch for this movie more than I do the actual film.

I had the drinking cup for a really long time
If tim currey was in it I would not have remembered.

This was not "Jurassic Park with Apes" or "Twister with Apes"; it did not meet the critical merit of those films in either way.

>>219384977
No the book was bad and filled with 70s techno babble that went on for pages.

So just like Jurassic Park? And Andromeda Strain? And every other Michael Chrichton book ever?

No. I've read every Crichton book. Only Congo is filled with literal [code] and boring shit.

The Terminal Man is my favorite of his. I didn't know about the movie until much later, avoided it, at least Congo had a Hollywood garbage pedigree.

I'm 42 dude, I remember this coming out in theaters. It was hyped as the next Jurassic Park because it was Crichton's next book which has also been a best seller. They threw a lot of money at it, it was released as a summer blockbuster and the critics went to town on it and it lost a bunch of money.
>>
>>219387609
From the top of the raft to the water you can reach terminal velocity which is 120 mph
>>
>>219387669
>They threw a lot of money at it
It does not have a super high budget anon.
And I'm 45 I was there as well. I don't remember any of what you are saying.
>>
>>219387359
Right, they just delete you without even noticing you were there. Whites of all species are the definition of the banality of evil.
>>
>>219385393
The only thing I remember from watching the movie is tonal whiplash from the end when it suddenly turns into sci-fi with a crazy monkey laser. Though now that I think about it, we have those crazy water pressure cutters that use pressurized water to cut things. I wonder if you could cut a monkey in half with one of those.
>>
Kiiiiiiiiiiiinnnooooooo
>>
>>219388656
Did no one watch the beginning where Bruce Campbell shows off the laser and how powerful it could be?
>>
>>219384213
Very scary when I saw it at the theater at like 12yo or some shit. Strange because it wasn't marketed as some horror movie, more like adventure type shit.
>>
>>219384558
When will we address the Hippo Menace? Orange Man needs to get on this. We could send SEAL Team 6 after those violent fucks.
>>
>>219389077
Are you kidding? We need to HARNESS that power! We could have a horde of Hippo commandos working for us. We could air drop them into hostile cities and they're be murdering everyone and distracting the enemy!
>>
>>219389180
Hippo cavalry unironically sounds fucking amazing.
>>
>>219384213
It's okay, just feels really rushed once they actually get to the jungle
>>
>>219384213
The movie was shite, but the book was great.

I don't think they can be very far away from rivers or other bodies of water.
>>

They would dominate river battles. They are fast as fuck, can catch speed boats and flip them over.

>>
>>219394128
They are talking about the volcanic activity and the fact that it will blow up since the beginning of the movie.
>>
>>219384213
its cringe and based
>>
They make a rig that takes sign language and turns it into a voice, and this gorilla roasts the fuck out of everyone. I think that’s why we stopped teaching them to sign.
>>
>>219394266
Yes, still funny. They trained those apes to protect the mines and they've been guarding it for so long. Then the exact moment when the diamonds would be useful for a telecommunications satellite, is when the mountain erupts.
>>

It's bad but it's so bad that it's kinda good.

They gave themselves as much leeway as possible with an exotic setting, iconic actors, and featured creatures. The actual script, direction, editing etc. used up almost all of that leeway. We're still talking about it now because of the actors, people give so much leeway to any shitty pulp adventure with Tim Curry. Star system worked.

Why does no one talk about the fact that most apes on the edge of extinction and that 3rd worlders can't help but torture and treat them like shit. These people are literally destroying their rainforests for a quick buck and random villagers love kidnapping them and throwing them into wooden crates (people in these places have some weird autistic obsession with shaving their heads too for no fucking reason) These people don't deserve to live around such animals with the way they treat them. There was one case in Indonesia where some villagers were keeping an Orangutan as a prostitute and that they had to have a bunch of police officers armed with assault rifles (not pic related).

I don't hear enough people talk about this shit. It's fucking sad.
>>
>>219397976

>>
>>219384213

PURE UNADULTERATED KINO

Plus a great sentry turret scene.
>>
>>219397976
Yeah it fucked. Apes have one of the strongest bonds in nature with their mothers as babies and 3rd worlder faggots love ripping them away from their mothers and killing them while they sell the baby on the black market. I hate these mother fuckers like you wouldn't believe. It's unreal. You can tell too when ape babies are traumatized just by looking in their eyes. You can tell their soul has been broken when this shit happens to them. And to make matters worse they stuff them in a cage for the rest of their lives.
>>
>>219386680

For me it was when he put all of his shakedown cash in a paper bag and stapled it shut so nobody would 'peek'.

The little detail and flourish made the scene kino.

Whatever happened to the white pilot with the twirly mustache? He disappears after everyone starts jumping out of the plane and is never seen again. I know he didn't stay on the plane since Munro says the pilots already left and he's not seen in the rest of the expedition. Always bugged me as a kid.

Unironically I think chimpanzees ruined it for all apes. With the rise of the internet, everyone has heard stories or watched videos (both real and fictional) of chimps attacking people and disfiguring them for life. Back in the 90s the media made all apes out to be peaceful like whales.
>>
>>219399762
That webm was legit terrifying. What could you even do in that situation as a kid? It is strange how chimps got so much attention despite being violent psychopaths where peaceful bonobos, who are virtually identical to chimps, get overlooked. Maybe they like humping things too much.
