>hear this movie is irredeemable dogshit for years
>finally get around to watching it
>it's absolute unfiltered kino
It's just a solid cyberpunk adventure film, with amazing visuals. I don't get what people don't like about it.

the acting is kinda shot but the aesthetics are kino

Yeah the chick from Starship Troopers was really a weak point in the film, which is saying something when it's headlined by 90's Keanu and Beat Takeshi when he hasn't learned a single syllable of English yet. Ice-T was pretty bad too now that I think about it. I liked this guy though

the director worked on a black and white cut of the movie that was released on bluray a few years ago, it looks pretty good. he said it was closer to his vision.

Dina Meyer is weird in that she's a good actress who has been completely miscast in almost everything she's ever been in.
>>
I watched this after decades of hearing it was a bad movie and it’s litty. Even the dolphin.

Never repeat the opinion of another.

>we'll live to see CRT aesthetics become as interesting and novel as they were in the beginning
wild
>>
>>219394018
Weirdly, this is even more adorably dated than the movie itself

there's even a name for it. It's called Cassette Punk. Basically just Cyber Punk, with big, clunky, analog technology

The aesthetic was on point. The screenplay and acting are flawed, to say the least.

God, how I wish we got the 90s-era big budget Neuromancer that we were promised.

dont get me started on neuromancer, the idea of a 2026 hollywood wokeslop neuromancer makes my skin crawl. i hope it gets cancelled before they can butcher it like they butchered LoTR

Anyway, it's kinda funny that this movie and pic related are the only Gibson film adaptations afaik. A lot of his oeuvre (especially the pulpier novels he did later in his career) strikes me as fairly cinematic in tone.

90s futurism is best
planet sized cities and space dreadnaught armadas

Ice T can't act
Keanu barely can act
Dizzy from Starship Troopers doesn't take her shirt off
We didn't appreciate cyberpunk back then, and nobody knew what the fuck half the stuff they were talking about was.
