I don't want to start a war but I kind of thought it made John the Baptist seem stupid.

Okay, let's say everything he said was 100% right, which it probably was, there's still no reason to just keep talking shit, who are you talking to? You're not going to convince anybody of anything, it's not like the evil king is going to decide to change his ways, everybody who hates the king already hates him without you talking shit, and anybody who doesn't care about good and evil isn't going to magically start caring just because you were talking shit, so why bother?

It seems like he wanted to be martyred, like he had no other purpose in mind than to get himself killed for no reason. It's not like the evil government was overthrown because of his death, nothing changed from the day before to the day after, he accomplished nothing except throwing his life away.

"He spoke truth to power!"

He should have thrown a knife instead and at least KILLED the evil king or his wife or his daughter, talk is cheap. Especially if he was willing to die, he literally accomplished nothing by what he did. He just signed his own death warrant and it benefitted nobody. Least of all himself.

Yes. That was their way to root out the faggots. The boys would be restrained and watch the girls, both naked of course. Any of the boys who didn’t get erections were killed on the spot by the ceremonial executioner. They left this all out of 300 of course because of the controversy

It makes more sense in Biblical context. He was trying to save Herod's soul and get him to stop breaking Biblical law by marrying his sister-in-law. Ironically, Herod was close to heeding John's advice until said sister-in-law used her daughter's performance as an opportunity to railroad him into having John executed. The guy literally put his neck on the line to help a politician's moral standing and paid the ultimate price. Not entirely wise, but still noble.

>Was Ancient Rome really this degenerate?

Herod Antipas was one of the Edomite kings. The Edomites were a people whom Judea conquered some one or two generations previously and had risen to positions of power in the Levant after being converted to Judaism.

At the time the area was a satrapy of the Roman Empire and it had been Julius Caesar himself who had appointed Antipas as Procurator of the region.

Basically the slut was dancing in a Jewish throne room. She eventually became Queen of Armernia Minor after marrying her cousin, Aristobulus of Chalcis.

I can believe it now. It's a progression over decades and centuries. Morals die and degeneracy grows. We're witnessing it ourselves. Not that long until it's "normalized" for family to be sexual with each other.

She doesn't look white, so I'm willing to bet this is the case for all non-whites.

I think it's funny that AMC is actually worse than it used to be, and I mean that in the sense of it no longer shows the stuff boomers WANT it to show.
I hated this channel so much growing up because I knew there was always something BORING and OLD on it and that my dad would love to change my cartoons to watch it.
He'd even pull dumbass shit like
>I'll change it if you can tell me who that guy is
And I'm like fucking 10, I don't know who the fuck Yul Brynner is, man.
..Anyway, yeah when he made me watch this I thought it was degen as fuck even as a kid to hear this bitch go

I'm probably misremembering but wasn't it the current queen at the time, who had a controversial marriage, asked for the dance ceremony thing. Which was part of a larger celebration of something else, but the dance was a "gift" to the king. She had been pestering him about John for awhile though

From a religious' standpoint, he was a precursor of Christ and he accepted this role:
>John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
>Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
>He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
>He must increase, but I must decrease.
Makes sense for him to take a shot at the corrupted elites before going.

the people of Herod's kingdom knew what the king was doing was wrong
the common man saw the terrible deeds of the king, knew they wouldn't do such things and couldn't get away with it if they did, but stayed silent to protect their own necks
John spoke the truth in front of all, willing to die to stand up for what was right
if he was willing to do this, then why would he lie about his cousin Jesus being God come to earth as a man to redeem mankind?
John's actions have brought many many people to God, in his own time through into ours
Jesus Himself said that John is the best, most moral man to ever live
>Matthew 11
>11 Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
as a bonus, lots of kino art has been inspired by John
