The main character of the book is the schizo native american giant who pretends to be catatonic, and gathers a massive ball of gum underneath his bed or some shit. He is clearly schizo and hallucinates frequently in the book. There is zero proof that Jack Nickolson's character also isn't insane in the book, because the narrator is so unreliable. The narrator could easily just be projecting him actually normal. She could easily be completely mischaracterized by the schizo narrator in the book, and be an actual reasonable nurse that he's perceiving as evil.This is probably not actually the case because the author was a drug addict commie loser, but it's interesting that it could all be the narrator's deluded mind warping everything in the book. The movie is dogshit because it takes all of this away.
