>The movie is said to be "about a guy (Bryan, played by Austin Abrams) sent to deliver a bag that he thinks has organs in it. Then he gets stuck in the ice on the way, hits a zombie lady, gets pulled over by the cops, gets chased by a dog, gets chased by zombies that turn out to be alien zombies. [He then] meets Paul Walter Hauser, who works for Umbrella Corporation, and has to go to Raccoon City and then has to get the cure up to the 28th floor of the main building."

Huh? Wasn't Snyder's crappy zombie movie also doing this?
>>
>>219397011
>has nothing to do with the video games
I dunno it sounds like it's ripped straight from the Flashback scenario in Outbreak File 2 more or less in terms of setting and zombies. Fortunately only me and twelve other people on the planet played that one so no one will ever know.

>"Practically Nothing To Do With The Games"
What was the last RE live action movie that had anything to do with the games?
>>
>>219397011
But why? So it's just any old zombie movie?
>>
>>219397011
Thanfully we already have Welcome to Raccoon City as a fantastic adaptation of the games, right fellas?
>>
>>219397011
Which is fine. I don't get why you people want every adaptation of a video game to be a 1:1 recreation. You already played the games. What Zach is doing here is taking the medium of this video game franchise and using it to tell new stories. That's how an artist thinks. Whereas you're thinking as a consoomer.
>>
>>219397233
Welcome to Racoon City was an homage to the first two games with tons of references for fans, it just wasn't a very good movie

It felt like they were actually trying at least

It's set in Raccoon City during the outbreak. How is that "nothing to do with the games"?
>>
welcome to raccoon city was fucking incredible
there's no way it can get any better than that

All of the films disregard any kind of actual respect for the games, who actually cares at this point.
>>

It was absolutely terrible.
>>
>>219397011
That sounds like it's clearly set in the game's most iconic setting. What kind of stupid article is that?
>>
>>219397267
Because every artistic project that includes more than one person in the writing process is a collaborative effort. A director or writer needs to bring some serious starpower to have full veto rights and fully realize his and only his vision. Maybe Cregger wanted to film a zombie movie script but was only given greenlight if he hitched his wagon to a big IP. Maybe during the scripting process somebody, who had veto rights, took a red pen to 90% of RE related scenes and themes. And 10 iterations later this is what we got.
>>
>>219397267
as opposed to what? Resident Evil was built on copying bits of zombie movies

The RE franchise is cursed because Capcom are anal retentive control freaks when it comes to the core cast of the franchise and yet, are perfectly fine taking money from studios who churn out INO garbage with Donut Steel OC characters that have nothing to do with the games outside the most superficial elements

the games literally are movies

>>

They are just trying the inverse of the 80s and 90s when every hit movie got its own video game. Even if that means making a movie about a video game really badly wanted to be a movie (AKA movie game).

still cant believe people hated on welcome to coon city, it was pretty fucking good other than the initial orphanage scene.

yeah making leon into a jeet loser was terrible, but hey who cares
it was a good zombie movie, chief irons was solid

Jill Valentine in Spencer mansion. Barry and Wesker tailing her. Lisa Trevors, A Crimsonhead, Giant spiders, Giant Snake, Zombie dogs. Those are the basics. Scene of unlocking, scene of Jill Sandwich. Lickers, even Nemesis. You can make a decent movie with that stuff.

i saw his movie about the inbred freak in the tunnels under a house. that movie sucked and i'm not interested in whatever the fuck he does.

Still can't believe they haven't made a movie based solely on RE2 1998, it's literally the perfect movie material. Dont have to change anything.

From the guy thats chasing you like the terminator, the father-daughter body horror relationship, the disturbed police chief. It's perfect

>You can make a decent movie with that stuff.
But studios view that as a movie for people who are already fans. The games endemic audience. Don't need to make a movie for them because they are going to watch it anyway. The only way that someone will ever make a faithful adaptation is with an angel investor basically funding the whole thing. Someone who doesn't care about the brand or growing an audience or box office results. Someone who is willing to pay Capcoms licensing fee and spend another $100mil on the rest of the production.
>>
>>219398019
>as opposed to what?
As opposed to making it about the games you brainlet
>>

It is about the games. The Raccoon City outbreak is the setting of RE2 and 3.

Leon Kennedy rolls into town two hours late for his first day because he was busy nursing a breakup hangover, only to find out his new workplace is a literal zombie mosh pit. He teams up with Claire Redfield, who is just trying to find her brother but ends up babysitting a middle schooler whose dad is a walking pile of sentient ham with a giant eyeball on his shoulder. You’ve got a nine foot tall stalker in a leather trench coat who refuses to respect personal space, a police chief who spends his lunch break taxidermying the mayor’s daughter, and a secret spy who definitely shouldn't be wearing a cocktail dress in a sewer full of giant spiders. It all peaks when they have to fight a wall of screaming meat on a moving train while the government prepares to solve the city's property tax issues by hitting the delete button with a nuclear missile. It is high stakes, high fashion, and at least 30 percent of the runtime is just people pushing heavy crates to open doors that aren't even locked.

>During a recent interview with The New York Times, Cregger said that he fully expects fans to "crucify" him...
new york times:
>Cregger, 45, said he wanted to create a “Resident Evil” film that honored the franchise’s intense games, in which players must solve puzzles and survive a nightmarish zombie-infested setting with sparse resources.
>“I love the idea of being pitted against a world that is hellbent on annihilating you,” Cregger said. “It just feels fun and I haven’t seen a movie that offers that sort of experience.”
>Cregger added that if elements of his movie deviate from the game franchise’s lore, he anticipates that some fans will “crucify” him.

>What was the last RE live action movie that had anything to do with the games?
RE: The Final Chapter has the exact same plot as RE: Requiem with Capcom replacing all the characters with their donut steel versions, so there's that.

Funny thing is, Cregger's movie sounds exactly like The Final Chapter. Fast paced A to B journey, constantly being attacked, no time to stop, one set piece after another.
>>
>>219398823
>they slapped Mila in Monster Hunter World right quick when the movie came out, even if it bombed
It's worth noting that the Monster Hunter film is canon, and Capcom helped write it and had total control over the characters and story. A lot of MH fans online are in denial about this because, I think, they don't like what the film's story implies about the future of the franchise.
>>
>>219398870
The Netflix show was trying to appeal to the Stranger Things audience with the New Raccoon City stuff, and the RE film audience with the post-apocalyptic Omega Man stuff. They actually wanted to get Jovovich originally to cameo in a few episodes, but it fell through during early planning.

This is why the Netflix show has a hybrid timeline that uses elements from both the games and the films.

Netflix wanted to focus on the YA teen stuff. Constantin wanted to focus on the post-apocalyptic stuff.
>>
>>219397011
I read the script. No one else?

Cregger is such a slap in the face to Trevor.

He tries to play it both ways in such a hackneyed fashion that it's almost admirable until you realizes $20 million, then you have to seriously ask why Hollywood is jacking him off, and the reason is because he plays it both ways. He cracked le code.

The script is trash. But the movie will make money. It will gross $150 million. It doesn't deliver shit, it's not Resident Evil, but the trick is that it never stops delivering shit like weak bread to a raccoon that is goyim.

The entire dialog in the script is the word "Fuck" "Goddamn" "Fucking shit" "Gross" "Gross" "Gross" "Fuck this" "Fuck it" "Holy fucking shit"

Cregger has tapped into goyim-speak and he and Hollywood knows it, it allows him to cast white characters with dialog that translates worldwide while also affirming and propagating the dumbness of Americans, turning post modern wigger-stoner slang into universal topiary which will justified by "critics" as a nod to vidya avatars.

It's sad because he sidelines deepest lore for deepest bong laugh every time. The main character is initially in favor of his gf getting an abortion, his gf will probably be black or latino, so that the abortion topic is represented but redirected onto the white male.

The white cop character is merely a playing both sides composite for George Floyd and ICE, the cop does nothing wrong, but dies in mocking fashion for the sake of manufactured Letterboxd reception.

The most shit on Trevor example is that Cregger makes sure to name drop "Syria" in regard to Raccoon City being plagued by suicide bombers but also suggesting that Assad was using chemical weapons on his own people, which can be interpreted and will be as CIA Big Pharma doing the same to Americans and yet that subtext drowns under the mass interpretation of Syria being Barbarian in nature. Cregger did this same shit with the floating AR-15 in Weapons.

Script sucks.
>>
>>219399010
The original film examined each of those elements and changed them on purpose.
>Jill
Owned by Capcom. Replace her with Alice.
>Spencer Mansion
Mansions are boring. Move to the sci-fi lab as quickly as possible.
>Lisa Trevors, A Crimsonhead, Giant spiders, Giant Snake, Zombie dogs.
Too many creatures. Too expensive. Also, they show up way too early. The zombies shouldn't appear until 40 minutes into the story like Alien and Predator do.
>Wesker
Ridiculous villain. Rewrite him into Spence, an unassuming guy who has memory loss but plotted to kill everyone and escape with the virus.
>>
>>219400806
The script is interesting because I wonder what parts are Cregger and what parts are Hatten. All of Cregger's fans are heavily downplaying this is a Shay Hatten script.

>>219397942
The movie is shit, it's a speedrun through Friday the 13th (the barn scene), then Evil Dead 2 (with a farm house in place of the cabin), then a Beetlejuice From Dusk Til Dawn sequence in a tunnel and RV investigation, then a sewer scene involving rats (Stephen King's IT and an obese person gag), then it turns into Die Hard meets Cabin in the Woods. All of that projected through John Carpenter's The Thing conjoined dog-man tentacles.

The elevator sequence, with a puker spewing acid onto the MC's ascent until nothing is left is pretty gud. The doomer ending is a baby wing of the hospital that rips off Aliens, with cribs for eggs, the MC confesses to his gf that he is now adult enough to have a baby, which is probably Cregger admitting he'll pay child support to a Zionist model.

The deepest lore is that the MC puts on a RCDP jacket which Cregger literally says, "Will make gamers jizz their pants. We demand this has to stay in!"

It's like if someone pitched an X-Files movie featuring a Doorsdash driver speedun. It was written on adderall in two weeks.

>>
>>219400983
It's interesting that Cregger has real fans. Here is what Cregger added to Hatten's script: abortion, anti-cop sentiment, carefully dubious suggestion on trans surgery via male and female bodies conjoining via demonic worms (which is the best compromise), male vs female protector instincts, and the word Syria.

You can't read the script on /tv/ and not realize that Cregger is gaming Letterboxd faggots like Howard Lutnick with the market. It's just a shame that alpha is donating their faith into him, whereas at least Sam Raimi was an atheist maniac and John Carpenter was anti-Zionist agenda to the point of self sabotage. Cregger is a hustler, horror breeds them, but his Oscar glazing by Hollywood is just as sus as any A24 Zio faggot. It's like if Nick looked the other way as Sam got killed then directed Midnight Club and subtly shit on Gaddafi.

>>
>>219402742
>never seen any of the RE films
Why is that hard to believe?
>>
>>219402816
Two reasons, really. One, it's one of the highest grossing horror film franchises ever made. It's like saying you've never seen an Alien film. I don't buy a horror director saying that. Two, his film is a carbon copy of how the later RE films were paced and constructed. He's lying. I don't know his exact motivations for lying, but he trips himself up by trying to claim that his film is "completely different" to previous films. Firstly, if you've never seen them, how can you claim that? Second, he refuses to explain or give a single example of how his film is different.
>>
>>219402685
that would require Zack to make a good movie, which would be unprecedented. and he's already given up on his own ideas to keep doing the most marketable thing possible.

maybe he's just doing it as a director for hire and didn't really structure the film himself. why would he care? the movies have never been highly-regarded even if they are technically popular.

a lot of filmakers have complete distain for vidya adaptations so him never watching them is completely plausible.
>>
>>219402986
A franchise being mainstream doesn't mean everyone has seen it. To this day I've never seen a single RE movie and have never cared for them
