Looking back 20 years later, why did this franchise make men so angry? Men, all ages, all walks of life, were in a competition to insult Twilight and its fans the worst they could, with even other authors joining in (like Stephen King’s famous “takedown”). Kristen Stewart was harassed by a worldwide bullying movement and people are surprised she’s odd now. Interesting how internet nerds love Robert so much now considering how much they hated him for Twilight.

I liked it back then and I like it more now.
I even read the first book in like 5th grade when it was just on the "best YA lit" reading list or whatever before there was ever even any massive hype.
Twilight is based.

It was a shallow self insert fantasy that got treated as the second coming by women who would sneer as anything remotely mirrored.
People tend to not give a shit now because they treat the movies as they are, untainted by the retarded level of praise it got at the time.

The fact that nobody reads anymore helps, because the books are legitimately fucking abysmal. In terms of adaption, the movies are some of the best distillations of source material out there

I have seen bits of the movies and I just genuinely don't like how they look. I don't like the muted colors, and I don't like how the characters never seem to exhibit any personality or charisma, let alone chemistry. Then there is the questionable decision of having vampires out in sunlight for some reason, except still deathly pale so they just look like larping goth nerds. Also there was a scene where blandella and whatsisface went to see the werewolf guy and he was just chilling shirtless with a bunch of other shirtless dudes all hanging around each others necks no homo tho.
Just dumb movies, but its like they went out of their way to make it dumb in a non-fun way.
But now i cant even say that because people will assume i just hate women, and thats bullshit. As far as vampire soap operas go i think True Blood is way better. It actually has likable characters in it.

First it was Justin Bieber than twilight than 50 shades now dark romance novels.

Yeah okay like let's pretend most men aren't shooting ropes to generic anime titties and watching shonen slop or doom queuing some generic pvp shooter. This
>>
>>219409043
>Hating someone else’s porn because some of them hate your porn
No one said or implied anything of the sort. (You) instantly went to porn, and admitting that twilight is just porn for women isn’t the own you think it is. The thing is that no one at the time wanted to admit it was just porn for women, especially the women themselves.

What twilight was being compared to was not a straight up gender inversion of twilight (which the bitch herself did write) but something that would be an actual “self-insert fantasy” for men that women would find as incomprehensible as most men found twilight. Ya know, a story where a humble man fixes things, protects the weak, defeats bad actors, and is loved for doing so.
>>
>>219409915
To be fairer than twilight deserves, it’s just the natural progression from what Anne Rice did to vampires, as she’s the one who changed how people write vampires. Twilight just outright stopped people writing vampires for a while, as there was nothing left down that line.

Because something being beloved by women, for reasons they didn’t want to admit, is not notable. 50 shades of gray, which openly admitted that it was just porn for women, was less successful than twilight, which leads one to think women simply aren’t honest about what they want.
>>
>>219410912
> that would be an actual “self-insert fantasy” for men that women would find as incomprehensible as most men found twilight. Ya know, a story where a humble man fixes things, protects the weak, defeats bad actors, and is loved for doing so.
The women who bitch about that are confused and fickle and so is any man who does it to women, that’s my point. Women and men both have these types of stories, why match the biggest bitch in the room by complaining?
>>
>>219411121
Im not sure how that follows from my post
>>
>>219411447
The point you keep missing is not only did women not want to admit, at the time, it was just porn, men also didn’t want to think so little of women to come to the conclusion that it’s just porn for them. So you have this franchise that is bafflingly horrible but also intensely popular with people we’re supposed to think are equals, who are also clearly ashamed to admit why they like it.
>>
>>219411472
>thing is popular because it’s porn for women but it operates in a nebula of plausible deniability
>thing directly admits it is porn for women, is less successful because it doesn’t have any plausible deniability
>>
I had to take my sister to watch the first three in theatres. When the fourth one came out she had friends to go with. I was a bit bummed out because I wasn't going to go watch it alone lmao
>>
>>219411712
Well Twilight is literally softer core romance, most people understood that but the usual suspects like to fight anyways. ‘Plausible deniability’ is one way to put it but if any fan was bothered by any accusation this honestly PG13 romance was sexually sickening, that makes sense too
>>
>>219411796
Softcore has more appeal than hardcore in public movie theaters and in the public forum
>>
>>219412113
>>219412083
No one understood twilight was porn and none of its fans wanted to admit it for reasons (you) are displaying by referring to “porn” as “sexually sickening.” Even 50 shades was similarly baffling but since it was openly admitting what it was, there wasn’t as much controversy. It also wasn’t taking anything “cool” and turning it into sparkly bullshit.

Furthermore, since you’re clearly comfortable using “it’s just girlporn” as a defense for twilight, and are clearly quite pornbrained, all you seem to see is “my porn vs your porn.” As remember, no one was talking about porn at all until (you) posted >>219407161.
>>
>>219412684
Porn/erotica/romance whatever. I mean none of it negatively. So women have sexualities but can be prudish enough to not want to talk about it in public. So what? All you have to do is accept there was some popular romance/erotic/porn series girls liked and suddenly any alleged ‘controversy’ or sex war just disappears. This whole argument is a ruse man. All you had to do was say ‘nice’ if they brought it up and know they were into something sexual about it l. People are often shy about their erotica, who cares
>>
>>219412840
This conversation is about why twilight was so hated/controversial. Your low iq makes it impossible for you to understand the difference between mentalities 20 years ago and today. It would be about a decade before fans of twilight would be comfortable admitting twilight was just porn.
>>
>>219413343
My point, going back to the post that started this reply chain, is it was not just ‘hypocrisy of the fans’, it was also ‘hypocrisy of the haters’, who still often think its cool to turn into judgmental prudes themselves to get back at who they perceive are judgmental prudes
>>

Except that is a conflict you made up and instantly decided was real and have spent five and a half hours (!!!) rejecting any real explanation of the disconnect between fans and everyone else.

To sum up the disconnect, if you tell a man he doesn’t get it, he’ll look for something deeper, not lower.
>>
>>219414179
The last 20 years feels like a blur because the last 15 or so of those 20 years has been a cultural void where not much notable has happened.
>>
>>219414284
I didnt make that conflict up at all, youve been corroborating it. That people demanded the audience admit this project is smut, in retaliation to the idea they are liars because some of them complain about other smut. And you can say everyone’s a simp for not actually considering it porn (it is a non-nude romance ffs), but its really not porn like what people mean when they say porn. Again, 50 shades WAS porn and got less flak. Some amount of the conflict here is people wanted retaliation against prudes, so they went around acting like this shit was crazy offensive and blew the wall off female shame forever. Some women were too protective of themselves, and plenty of guys insisted it was some soft of effigy of female whorishness. Both needed to calm down and the haters are as culpable of being performative prudes
Its not hard for me to chime in while im at work, either.
>>
>>219414291
Thinking not much happened in the last 20 years is just you shutting down due to sensory overload.
>>
>MUH MEN
Fuck off back to bluesky, you sexist, ignorant faggot. It has nothing to do with men specifically and everything to do with a huge section of western society and media making fun of it. The main audience were teenage girls, but ultimately it's the reason why Paterson is such a big actor, and that alone makes it worthwhile.
>>
>>219415123
>people demanded the audience admit this project is smut, in retaliation to the idea they are liars because some of them complain about other smut

This is a conflict you made up. It doesn’t exist outside your head.

Twilight didn’t register as porn at all to men, and men didnt want to think women saw it as porn, as its complete dribble, thus seeing it as porn for women would be thinking less of women. Now men are fine thinking less of women. Throw in turning vampires into sparkling pussywhipped emo-twinks and you have most of the reasons why it was hated then.
>>
>>219415453
Are you fucking kidding me man everybody knew Twilight was teen romance slop, what fucking world are you coming from? Thats why everyone was making fun of sparkling teen romance vampire. So the controversy was ‘men respected it too much’? That it was beloved in a different way by two different halves? Fuck no, half the people talked shit about it, called it trashy romance for little girls, what are you even saying
>>
>>219415762
No one was calling anything slop in 2008. But you’ve proven a few times you can’t differentiate between now and any other time.

And, again, you clearly seem completely pornbrained, so you don’t seem to differentiate at all between pornography and any other type of movie.
