That’s the whole tragedy of it. He wasn’t dumb, he knew exactly what Vic was and still chose to ride with him because it meant being on the winning side. Problem is when you build your entire life around being the “smart” one in a crew of psychos, eventually you’re the only one left when the psycho cuts a deal.

Lem had a conscience, Ronnie had blind loyalty. Shane had ego. He had neither excuse. He bet everything on Vic and lost. Deserved? Maybe not in a cosmic sense, but in a “you laid down with wolves” sense? Yeah, kinda.
